I don't have an opinon on that. It never bothered me. Unlike you I liked a lot of the '90s Marvel comics.

Put Marvel to the side again even if I liked Marvel's Luke Cage

What do you mean put Marvel to the side? This is one of the two places you said we could discuss such stuff freely.

Just remember that Marvel went bankrupt in the 90's for a reason. I think things started out well enough, but eventually they got crazy with so many characters having three or four different titles. Remember the Ghost Rider spinoff titles called the Rise of the Midnight Sons? Spirits of Vengeance, Nightstalkers, and Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins? They all ended up doing horribly. Spider-Man and X-Men went from having four titles each to just one or two. The cosmic titles like Quasar and Adam Warlock and the Infinity Watch also tanked. It was a tough time for Marvel.

I'm not a fan of the Netflix Marvel series. They're supposed to be connected to the MCU, but they might as well be on another planet.

Actually Marvel went bankrupt in the '90s because the collectors' market tanked and everybody had assumed it would make so much money.

And anyway, commercial success or the lack thereof is never an indication of artistic quality or the lack thereof. People tend to like crap (Spider Man: Homecoming, anyone?) and they tend to disike good quality. Marvel put out some of its best comics in the '90s. If people didn't like them that doesn't say much in favour of people.

There were a lot more than four X-books in the '90s and they ended up with a lot more than two. Spider-Man had more than four titles and ended up with two and the latter strategy was John Byrne's idea. As for Quasar, I never had any use for that idiot. Good riddance.

I always wanted to read the comics and keep them in respectable condition, not collect them and keep them pristine. Nowadays most of the comics I read are paperback or hardback reprint collections.

(Seeing as it's a different topic and much of a day later, I'm starting a new post for this.)

Further reflections John Romita Jr's art: I told you guys how disappointed I was when I found how much his art had changed, and ultimately declined, since my old days of reading comics back in the '90s. Well, even though his art has declined for sure, it still has something special to it. It's still got this peculiar solidity that gives it life and makes it draw you in, makes the action seem hyper-real and heartfelt. I guess it's the mark of a great artist that even when his work has declined it still retains elements of greatness. He's probably still one of the best comic book artists out there, it's just that standards have dropped all across the field. Modern comic book art seems to be more about overdone colouring jobs than about getting a good strong foundation of eye-grabbing pencil drawing.
