no one appreciates anything, they're all critics. They'll be greeters at a WalMart and hate on movies made by people who are successful. It's jealousy and ignorance rolled in to one. It sucks. The Lion King is a damn masterpiece!

I actually kinda wish Disney would re-release some more of their animated classics in theaters like they did back in 2011/2012 so that newer generations would get the chance to watch them on the big screen

if they didn’t re-release this movie back in 2011 I would’ve never gotten the chance to see it on the big screen b/c I was born the year after it came out

There's no denying the immense amount of work that went into the photo-realistic CGI animation of the remake, I can at least respect that. But I think that the technology of computers these days does make it easier, and plus I expect they used the same animators/program from the CGI animals in The Jungle Book). But you also got to think about the exceptional hard work of traditional hand drawn animation, especially back in the early days. When you think that several hundred drawings equate to just a few seconds of animation, it's absolutely crazy. I think that's what people don't appreciate these days, is that whilst CGI animation is hard work too, traditional hand drawn animation was 100 times harder. But the type of animation that actually takes the most work and is essentially the most impressive is claymation imo. But I appreciate all types of animation.

the amount of work that goes into claymation is insane

I wish I could re-live watching Lion King on the big screen in 2011 now

It really is!

Yeah, I though it was awesome when they re-released the original into cinemas. I think they should do that with all the classics!

I really miss the traditional 2D animation. It seems dead, which makes me sad.

It does feel like it. I deeply miss Disney making hand drawn animated films. But fortunately there are still some studios that still make them. Can you imagine what Wreck it Ralph, Frozen, Big Hero 6, Moana, Zootopia would look like if were hand drawn?

Yeah, I guess I'm glad Princess and the Frog has that honor. I wish they would go back to 2D animation sometimes. I also miss the rich and beautiful Disney color the 2D films used to have too.

I made a gifset of certain moments of the film - doing a comparison with the remake (I posted that gifset in that thread). Thought I'd share

I love this movie & have seen it countless times It was shown on TV here over the weekend so had to watch again . Don't think I've ever seen it at the cinema, but I was 2 when it came out so I presume not
Completely agree with you all on wanting a new hand drawn one! There's just something more special about them I feel? I don't know... there's something that these older classics have which Frozen will never have (no offense to it)
