lyb - at least you're not procrastinating on doing the homework.

Tracey - I've taken some classes since graduating too, but even those have been a while now.

I'm a great-aunt! Bradley Allen was born this morning, his due date. He was 8lbs 7oz.

I'm not sleeping enough either ATM but I usually sleep at 5am... no wait, that's a lie. That's when I get up

ETA the curse of being a teacher's kid or two in this case

Am so. What do you think I'm doing right now?

Tracey: It was my final year of secondary school (1991-92)

I never had a problem with teachers knowing my folks. Still don't, really. The real curse of being a teacher's kid was always the pittance they pay teachers (which is still more than I'm making as a graphic designer...).

Chris, why didn't I see your news Anyway, congrats!

Lyb, I know it's really bad in the US. I heard that some aren't even paid over the holidays and only get one-year-contracts.

And yes, weekend plans : You?

Missed that before. Really? In Canada teaching is a fairly paid profession.

Kia - thanks. Here, I believe teachers are just hired, no contract. Although I hear most new hires don't start with full time positions and when enrollment is down, low seniority people are let go. How long is your contract?

Quiet weekend plans for me too.

A lot depends on where one teaches. My sister, who teaches in Idaho, recently informed me that things there have really swung against seniority. There are a lot of people, nationwide, concerned with the state of the American education system (NCLB, anyone?), and a lot of ideas being implemented in the hopes of improving things. Unfortunately, the thing that might actually help--expecting students to take some responsibility--seems conspicuously absent.
