I really hope there is a third movie! My favorite romantic drama films ever. Both of them!

Ethan Hawke confirms work has begun on Before Midnight

Rumours have long been circulating suggesting that Richard Linklater has been pondering a second sequel to his popular rom-coms Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, and finally, Ethan Hawke has confirmed that work has begun on a third film in the series.

The first film saw Delpy and Hawke play strangers who meet in Vienna and spend a wistful, tentatively romantic day together before going their separate ways some 24 hours later. Before Sunset repeated the trick, with a similarly chance encounter throwing them together in Paris.

Delpy and Hawke had recently been spotted in Greece, sparking rumours that a third film must be in the pipeline, and while Hawke wouldn’t confirm that the third film would be set there, he did reveal that work has begun on what’s tentatively been named Before Midnight.

“We’re here writing a third instalment to Before Sunrise,” he revealed. “If it works out, we’ll film it, and if it doesn’t, we won’t. It’s not really worth talking about. I’m just here developing.”

A fairly low-key soundbite then, although he did begin to sound excited as he warmed to his theme. “It’s super good,” he said of the prep he’d done with Linklater so far. “We’re just here workshopping it and developing it, trying to create a great script.”

So just knocking about in Greece with Julie Delpy for company, trying to work out the finer details of a romantic comedy. Nice work if you can get it…

Ethan Hawke Confirms Third Before Sunrise Movie
By Margaret Lyons for Vulture

Yes, there will be a third Before Sunrise movie, and yes, Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke are working on it right now. (Julie Delpy told us a few weeks ago that she, Hawke, and Linklater had started writing the movie.) Hawke confirms to MTV that he and Linklater are currently in Greece kicking around ideas for completing the trilogy. “If it works out, we’ll film it, and if it doesn’t, we won’t,” he says, contradicting reports that the movie was already filming. “It’s not really worth talking about,” Hawke says. “I’m just here developing.” Not worth talking about? Hush, Ethan. Hush. These are the things scraggly bohemian fantasies are made of.

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy Shooting Movie in Greece
By Joanna Varikos on August 31, 2012 in News

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are teaming up for a sequel to “Before Sunrise” and “Before Sunset.” The title of the film is supposedly set to be “Before Midnight,” which is currently shooting in Greece.

The first two films about their romantic escapades took place in Vienna and Paris. In an interview not too long ago, Delpy mentioned she was catching a flight to Greece but did not say for what reason, and Hawke was seen visiting Pylos over the summer. Rumors were flying that a sequel was in the works, but nothing was actually confirmed. Actors and crew, however, have been seen filming around Kardamyli, Koroni and Pylos.

The sequel will likely begin where “Before Sunset” left off. Richard Linklater is getting behind the camera once again for the third film, which is sure to please those who have been following Jesse and Celine’s love story since “Before Sunrise” was released in 1995.

The sequel to "Before Sunset" is currently filming in Greece. Not in Athens but in Messinia (a part of the greek mainland) at the seaside villages of Pylos, Kardamili, Koroni.
The signs around the areas where they film read "BM" so i guess that the title of the project could be Before Midnight.
The filming is reported to finish in the first week of September.

Ok, I know this will sound crazy, but... my grandma accidentally interrupted the filming today! They were shooting in the Kalamata airport from where she was catching a flight and she swanned into the departures lounge and sat right next to Ethan Hawke till someone went over and very politely asked her to move. My Gran's 82 and, needless to say, has no idea who Ethan Hawke is, so she was a bit miffed, but luckily she was with my aunt who explained everything.

Surprise: Richard Linklater Has Completed ‘Before Midnight’ With Ethan Hawke & Julie Delpy
First up, the rumor was Richard Linklater's "Before Midnight," the supposed follow-up to "Before Sunrise"/"Before Sunset" was unexpectedly shooting in Greece just a few weeks after Julie Delpy told us that the project had a least a year to go before shooting. Ethan Hawke seemed to echo Delpy's sentiments recently: he and Linklater were in Greece only writing the film.

All the while our Greek friends at Flix were insisting the film was shooting despite the actors claiming otherwise. Turns out they were right all along (and we should have listened to those emails). Deadline reports that not only was "Before Midnight" -- its confirmed official title -- shooting in Greece all along, but it's actually completed its principal photography.

The third film of this trilogy, Delpy and Hawke are obviously reprising their roles as star-crossed lovers Celine and Jesse. The script was once again scripted by Linklater, Delpy and Hawke (they earned a 2005 screewriting nomination for "Before Sunrise"), and obviously they shot this on the sly (for the most part).

The trio released a statement: “It’s great to be back together again, this time in beautiful Greece to revisit the lives of Celine and Jesse nine years after Jesse was about to miss his flight.” This alludes to the end of "Before Sunset," where Jesse was indeed about to miss his flight back home to the U.S. and possibly finally take a step forward with his relationship with Celine. The ending was quite the cliffhanger. So what happens nine years later? While no sizzle real for "Before Midnight" will arrive in TIFF, buyers will be anxious to hear about it and presumably the film will come along with a 2013 release date when a sale is made. A first look image of the new movie is above.

I haven't been this excited for a film in a long time. Sunrise is just such a lovely film and Sunset might be one of my favourite films ever.

Ethan Hawke Talks BEFORE MIDNIGHT; Says ‘We May Have Come to the End of the Story’

Three weeks ago, production wrapped on Before Midnight, the third entry in the incredibly well regarded Before Sunrise/Sunset series directed by Richard Linklater. The fascinating thing:nobody even knew the picture had been written or was in production. The films, for those unfamiliar, follow Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) as they meet, talk and fall in love all in a day and night.

At the press junket for Sinister earlier today, I had the opportunity to speak with star Ethan Hawke about the recently shot and wrapped Before Midnight. Hawke was more than willing to open up about the newest entry in the series, the writing process behind the films and whether or not Before Midnight will be the last in the series. For Hawke’s thought on the film, hit the jump.

Ethan Hawke: [Before Midnight’s] really a continuation. For me, we just filmed it a couple days ago and I’m still kind of high from the experience. The hardest thing will certainly be… that the first two have a real following. People care about these characters and we really feel an obligation not to let people down about it. But at the same time, there’s no way we’re going to make everybody happy so we just had to try to go about with the same approach and same attitude. I love this movie. And I feel like in a strange way we may have come to the end of the story.

So this is the last one. I can’t expect another “Before” film every six or seven years?

Ethan Hawke:
We’ll see. We’ll see. You never know but it feels like the story’s reaching its resolution.

What’s the writing process now like between you, Julie Delpy and Richard Linklater?

Ethan Hawke:
It’s an unbelievably weird experience. On all the movies it’s happened really organically and each one in a completely different way. But the short answer is that we usually, the three of us, have gotten together and figured out an outline of where the characters are right now and an outline of what the movie would be. Then we go off separately and write a lot and come back together and compare what we’ve written. And kinda take the greatest hits of everybody’s work.

Richard Linklater jokes about Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke, porn for sequel 'Before Midnight'

by Solvej Schou
Nov 3 2012 10:00 AM ET

There’s something so laid back about Richard Linklater in person, similar to his movies, many of which ooze a certain improv, off-the-cuff quality, such as 1993′s ever-amazing Texas school ride Dazed & Confused, or his romantic films Before Sunrise, in 1995, and Before Sunset, in 2004, both starring Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke.

It’s no surprise, then, that the director was equally laid back and jokingly coy discussing reuniting with Delpy and Hawke for the sequel Before Midnight, which recently wrapped filming and is now in post-production.

“It was intense. It was like a really intense three week shoot,” said Linklater, while doing a sit-down with EW for his dark comedy Bernie. “I think people who really liked the first two will like this one. They’ll appreciate it.”

In Before Sunrise, Delpy, as Celine, and Hawke, as Jesse, meet in Vienna, and then reunite in Paris in Before Sunset. In Before Midnight, they’re enmeshed with each other in Europe again.

“Julie and Ethan looked at themselves and said, ‘If we’re every going to do it, we better do it now, so it’s the last window we can actually make our porn video,” said Linklater, laughing. “So get ready!”

This! All of it!

I had been wanting to visit Vienna for a long, long time and finally got to this summer. I rode the ferris wheel at the Prater and saw "The Kiss" in person. I saw a random bridge from the bus and freaked out a little, thinking it looked suspiciously like the bridge at the start of "Before Sunrise". It was a beautiful city and I love being able to cross destinations off my bucket list!

I've been wanting to visit Greece for nearly as long and now I'll have another reason to go.
