Yes and Mer was the part of the soul left and they are underusing her criminally.
The three characters who really cared about others and brought real heart to the show have either been killed, left or are being ignored. But hey who needs heart when Shonda can show everyone sexing each other in 100 different ways and in 100 different places  __________________

Ah, I know, right? The greatest thing about the early seasons is the quirky humor, Mer at the core, and MAGIC surrounding her. George and Izzie, the heart and soul, bright and shiny in different ways, Cristina and Alex much more abrasive - but as a unit, they worked so well together, and their friendship was great, even when the characters were on the outs with each other, you know? I realize Shonda is and has been trying to transition the show into more of a giant ensemble, but I think she's completely lost the focus of the show, and what made it good in the first place. I do sympathize with her somewhat, because I'm sure it can't be easy having to write and maintain a show, but there are just so many other shows with a core center of characters that continues in quality without COMPLETELY changing what it was, you know? ~Red __________________

I know, the five had such different personalities but together, they worked perfectly. They were an amazing team, they were a family.
Why she moved away from such a winning formula, I will never understand. I know what you mean. Friends wasn't as good in the end, but the core still worked and it still felt like the same show I fell in love with. Same with Mcleod and Sea Patrol. They lost many original actors but were always able to perfectly inegrate the newer characters with the older without shoving the remaining orginal to the side and keeping the original spirit of the show intact. Not sure why Shonda cannot do the same. __________________

I love reading quotes from them about each other. KH said something like when she first came on set she had a crush on him because he was so cute and nice, and was dismayed that he wasn't interested.
