OK, so...sorry about all that. MDRevolutionFan, we have to change threads after every 300 posts (it's a forum rule - no clue why). I usually try to have it set up so it doesn't interfere with book club, but alas, this week has gotten completely away from me.

Alright, so...let's get this party started. Let's set the line-up as: Lemon, Irish, Ice, Thessie, LadyHawke (who has to join us later). MDREvolutionFan, did you read the story, because you are welcome to join in. You can see how we all post if you want to. If not, you can jump in next week. Either way, just let me know.

My thoughts on Betrayal by PleasantlyInsanePerson
Too much Connor. Too much Gene. Too little Charloe. I like that Rachel is dead. I hate that this is unfinished.

I looked through the comments and found that LemonSupreme from April 2014 said she loved this story. I’m pretty sure that she loved it assuming that there was more coming. LemonSupreme from June 2015 is jaded and tired of unfinished stories. Come back and finish it Pip. This was a really good start.

Sorry my notes are crap. I’ve been writing like crazy. Working on a little one-shot right now which will hopefully be published tomorrow **crossing fingers** Tentatively titled “Talk Dirty to Me”. In case you are wondering….this story is definitely gonna be rated M.

Unrelated….my husband won tickets to comic con and we’re going on Sunday. Should be fun. Giancarlo will be there, though its doubtful I’ll see him. Still…kind of cool.

I gotta say though, ILuvMyThesaurus, I agree with just about every story on your list. I'd love to see those updated!

My feelings about this story are completely in line with Lemon's. Way too much Connor, Gene and stuff that wasn't Charloe; not enough actual Charloe. And it meandered at points and I got a little antsy. Here are my notes that I typed up as I was reading. I don't have time summarize them tonight, sorry. I'm more in the head space of writing fanfiction at the moment instead. Sorry again:

Ch1: Loved this exchange:
His jaw clenched, “I thought I made it clear that no one is gonna be laying a finger on you.” Except himself, obviously. […] “Because you’ll save me, because you always come back,” he paused, scanning her face before nodding stiffly, “You can’t protect me forever.” “I can try, Charlotte.” He hadn’t used her full name is so long, it had annoyed her at first but now she realized just how much she missed it.

“They were rare in their ability to read each other’s mind with just a look…”
Yes. I did love how Charlie and Bass seamlessly managed to slip into wordless exchanges on the show. I thought it demonstrated their obvious connection. (Stupid writers.)

Chapter 2:
I have to say that I wasn’t a big fan of that character to begin with and after his betrayal I really struggled to tolerate him. He was always self-righteous which is where Rachel got it from. But after the Stephen Collins debacle last fall, my personal feelings have bled through and I just can’t tolerate the character. It is rather conspicuous that Gene has been left out of the comics all together.

Interesting twist to give Charlie the typhus. That’ll clearly send Bass spiraling.

Dying from illness versus in battle seemed boring to Charlie. That made me laugh and very true to who she is. She’s clearly in the same vein as Bass and Miles in that regard.

And just like that I hate Gene even more than before after bargaining with Bass. *******. And doesn’t he realize that he’s only putting everyone else in danger by letting Truman know Bass is alive? WTH.

Chapter 3:

Bass will obviously turn himself over to Truman once he learns that’s the key to getting Charlie the cure. I don’t foresee Gene being able to subdue Bass physically.

Okay, PIP is clearly drinking the Revolution Writers Kool Aid with this crackpot line from Gene about Rachel: “Sure, she ended the world, but it took brains to do it!” Like, seriously? WTAF? Being brilliant and being cruel doesn’t cancel each other out. I would never use my intelligence the way Rachel used hers. And I certainly wouldn’t justify it by saying, “At least I was smart enough to figure out how to bring about an apocalypse.”

Yes, but clearly Rachel’s foresight comes from her father: He only learned after he’d done something that the planned sucked. Telling Truman about Bass put everyone in danger. Dumbass. Didn’t he see that coming? (^^I did^^)

I knew he would do this: “If this is the only way to get a cure then so be it, I’m not gonna sit by and watch her die.” – Bass.

Propping herself up against the table, Charlie finally found the strength to speak, “If you go, they really will kill you this time.” He shrugged allowing himself a smile, “Better me than you.” (I really love protective Bass. And possessive Bass.)

Oh, why couldn’t Connor contract typhus and die? One can dream.

Chapter 4:
Loved this part:
The temptation to hold her hand was too much, she was cold and a little clammy but he didn’t care, at least she was still alive, “Hey Charlie,” tears sprung to his eyes, his chuckle sounded more like a sigh, “I don’t know what I’m doing, I don’t even know if you can hear me…Look you don’t owe me anything, I know that, but please…Give me this one thing, don’t die.”

There was pressure around his hand, the slightest squeeze, it gave him hope that she may have heard him, that she was still hanging on. He brought her hand to his lips, laying a gentle, chaste kiss across her knuckles, “Goodbye, Charlotte.”

Though Bass leaving Charlie in Connor’s care makes bile rise in my throat, but whatever.
Meh. Let Gene die. Who cares?

You know I was always surprised that Truman wasn’t killed on the show in his office. The guy orchestrated an outbreak on the town. In the times they are living in, that seems punishable by death. Especially in Texas.

Chapter 5:

Oh, yay. They finally kiss.

Chapter 6:

Okay, another road trip. Oh wait, Connor’s still going. Boo.

Gotta say I’m getting a little bit bored. Skimming now.

Okay, father and son actively competing over the same woman is kind of skivvy. Ew.

Chapter 7:

I like that they are riding together. I like Bass telling her stories about himself.

“Why the hell did we bring him, again?” I ask myself that about why they created Connor all the time.

Love their exchange as he leaves for the fight. And a kiss to her shoulder: Sweet. Love that Charlie’s presence pushes him to win the fight.

Chapter 8:

For a while, he had tried to convince himself that she was just Miles 2.0, but it was different now, if he lost her, it wouldn’t be like losing Miles again, it would be like losing Shelley, his baby, his parents, his sisters.

Apparently Connor is no longer lusting after Charlie. Which is great. But it wasn’t really explained away. But whatever. It stops that stupid competition.

And I’m completely skipping the Miles/Rachel stuff because I don’t care. It’s physically impossible for me to care less.

Chapter 9:

Charlie better not be mortally wounded.

I find it funny when the characters start using British colloquialisms.

Well finally they got their heads out of their asses. Actual Charloe! Woot. Too bad the good stuff was all fade to black…though not even that. Oh well, my imagination has been working on smut anyway. It probably needs a break. Lol.

Chapter 10:
Charloe is separated. Boo. Back to skimming.

Okay, pet peeve of mine. I absolutely hate it when fanfic writers write that Connor looks like Bass. There is absolutely zero physical resemblance at all. Don’t just buy into what the TV writers want you to believe: use your eyes. That always irritated me b/c they live in a time now where DNA testing is a thing of the past. If they wanted us to believe that Connor was Bass’ son they should have done a much better job finding an actor with distinguishing physical characters similar to Bass’. Oy.

Oy vey. Bass and Rachel off together on their own. I’m ill. Oh wait….never mind. PIP killed Rachel. I hope Bass doesn’t get blamed for it. Nevertheless, yippee.

Chapter 11:

She jokes about losing the plot a bit. I have to say I’m not sure this story had much direction, per se, but taking the direction of killing Rachel is always a good place to start.

Okay. NOT ****ING COOL that Charlie would ask Bass if he had killed Rachel. That completely undermines all the progress they’d made in chapter 9. Once again, this writer is very inconsistent. I don’t care that in whiplash moment Charlie goes all gooey over him in the next paragraph. That complete lack of trust there is annoying to me.

Lemon- Yay!!! I'm so glad you got the card. Thank you once again for that prize, which honestly to me felt more like a gift anyway. It's beautiful. And now you are saying more smut is on the horizon? Phew. So much for me taking a smut break.

Ice - I'm hoping your mom is doing better. But I know how entirely exhausting it is taking care of a parent. When my dad was alive, I was taking care of both my parents who each had health complications. So how are YOU doing?! I hope you are finding chances to rest before you wear yourself down.

Luv - It was awesome that you joined us again for the rewatch. I'm hoping it continues. It doesn't appear to be conflicting too badly with your family dinners. So yay for us.

LadyH- have a blast tonight with your beautiful granddaughters. I hope you've had wonderful luck on the job front.

OK, that's no problem. Things move a little slower here than on Twitter, but we use the forum because there's no way to get all our thoughts into 140 characters. Basically, we treat the book club as a round robin. Everyone posts in a 'line-up', just so they can get their thoughts out and everyone else can see them. After a few trials and errors in the early days, we found this way worked best. But it does cause some downtime between posts at this point. We all use our in between time in different ways. Later, we usually just have a chat and talk about whatever topic we want, usually something Revo related. And that's just a free-for-all Posts are in no order.

It takes a little bit of getting used to, but I think it's so old hat for some of us, we're just used to it. And it can be a lot of fun, chatting with other Charloe people without word limits.


OK, so this is going to be sort of short and sweet for me since I just finished reading about an hour ago (maybe less). I'm just so unprepared this week. Sorry about that, guys.


Betrayal - I liked this story. I think the inclusion of Connor a lot stems from the time frame it was written. Before we all realized he was an absolute jacka**. And I know a lot of us hated him from the get-go, but even I thought maybe he would turn out to be OK. I was wrong and should have gone with my first thought which was 'Emma should have gotten killed before she told Bass about Connor.'

What I did sort of like in this was the way Connor was trying to 'woo' Charlie. And how all his attempts failed because he paled so much by his father. He gives her flowers and she has no idea what to do with them. Bass gives her food and it's a form of foreplay. THAT I like...

I agree with Lemon, a little more Charloe a little faster would have been nice (she says as she's writing a story where they are together but are not together...yet), but I do understand the slow burn.

The worst part here is the lack of a conclusion, but honestly, where we are in the timeline of writing, there are a TON of incompletes right here. This may be the point where we sort of separated the writers who the show started losing when there was no Charloe and the writers who were sticking it out anyway.

Anyhow, the writer does leave a really great author's note on Chapter 7: "Riles, Nevilles and nanites can go away, just gimme Charlie and shirtless Bass!" I guess we can all agree.

Yes, those stories are so good and it would be amazing if they'd get updated. Since we started the list, there have been about a dozen that have been updated, so that has been great.

As for quoting multiple posts: You hit the reply with quote button, highlight and copy everything in the text box, hit the back button, find the next quote you want to reply to, hit the reply with quote button, and when the new text box opens, put your cursor in the box and paste the previous copied material into the box (I always put it at the top, answering older replies first, but it doesn't matter). Then if you have a third person you want to reply to, highlight and copy everything in the box again, hit the back button and repeat. When you finally have all the quotes you want, you can type under each separate quote in the text box. I hope this makes sense...it took me a bit of trial and error to figure it out.
