I wanted Karen to be the lead too. The problem with Freddie's character is that literally every member of his family was more interesting than him and if only they've focused more on that and not Effy... I have to say I saw the potential in his story, but unfortunately they've wasted all of that by making everything in his life about Effy. So yeah, Karen would have been a better lead without a doubt.

Effy was messed up, I loved her in gen 1, but I won't say that I think her mental illness came out of nowhere, but they could've dealt with it properly, not by making it a part of some ship and that ship only, so that Freddie could wash her, give her more drugs and frolic in the grass with her and yeah, that's it, that's the ship, I've never seen them having an actual conversation, not before their relationship and not during it. She literally told Cook and Katie more about their problems and her doubts in one conversation than in every "conversation" she had with Freddie combined, smh.

And yes! Cook's s4 episode remains one of my favorite Skins episodes ever and Katie ****ing Fitch is a perfect queen

I think it hurt Freddie's character a lot that his storyline revolved around Effy and only her. He even ditched his friends for her. It was hard to like him when he never interacted with anyone else.

Also I wish Effy's mental illness hadn't been about her relationship with Freddie. Something as personal and complicated as a mental illness had to be about a boy I hated it. Especially because they handled Cassie's eating disorder a lot better and it wasn't about Sid saving her.

Cook/Effy wasn't meant to be but at least the relationship seemed more honest and realistic. She would have never had a serious relationship with him but I always felt they truly knew each other and Cook loved her for who she was. The real Effy would have never lasted more than a few weeks with Freddie before getting bored and moving on with someone else.

Most of S4 and Freffy seem out of One Tree Hill and The OC instead of Skins.

Katie episode was awesome but I still hate the fact that she forgave Effy for trying to kill her so easily. It was so dumb and unrealistic. Watching all the episodes again some things about S4 seem even dumber now.

Oh, I hate that the moment Effy showed up in his life he became such a bad friend not only to Cook, but even to JJ. Like, I loved the s3 extra when the guys missed the last bus and had to sleep in some car, they were so happy together. And then suddenly everything in Freddie's life is about Effy. Even his issues with Cook aren't really about the fact that Cook puts him in trouble all the time, it's more about Cook shagging the girl he wants.

Every other character has a story outside their love life. But who is Freddie without Freffy, really? He has some scenes with Cook that are really all about Effy, oh, and Cook's mom giving him a bj. His family problems are linked to Effy, too, especially in s4. Freddie is such a flop.

They handled everything better in gen. 1, lbr

Cook and Effy used to be my Skins OTP, but I agree they weren't meant to be. But what Skins ship was? None of them would last in adult life, maybe except Naomily, which I hated in s4, and maybe Chris and Jal, but they never got a chance, lol Skins. When it comes to Cook and Effy they just clicked, not in a love at first sight way, but they kind of clicked from the start. Then it got messy, then Cook fell for her, then she started caring for him, then her love for Freddie exploded and then Cook was her friend, her actual friend and that was kind of heartwarming, because all of that actually seemed real.

Katie/Effy friendship came out of nowhere, just like a lot of things in s4, which was a mess from the start.

Gen 1 had its minor flaws but still it was the best gen by far. Gen 2 could have been the best if S4 hadn't happened.

I was never a big fan of Cassie/Sid but at least they never tried to sell them as this huge epic love like Freddie/Effy. Also Sid never tried "saved" Cassie or anything like that. Cassie still had to handle her problems on her own. I wasn't a fan but they never bother me because their relationship seemed real.

I think the only ships that could have survived the show were Naomily and Rich/Grace (but she died like Chris). I liked Mini/Alo but I felt it wasn't meant to last either.

Freddie was horrible friend. Some fans hate Cook because they feel he stole Effy from Freddie but fail to realize Cook was in love with her too and he didn't force Effy to do anything. Effy was the one who played Freddie all the time. And Cook always cared about his friends. Maybe he wasn't the best person but you could see he cared about them. Freddie felt ashamed of them most of the time (even JJ who never did anything wrong) and ditch them the moment Effy became his girlfriend. I feel Freddie/Effy were the black hole of S4. I don't think any relationship in Skins got that much screentime per season. Not even Sid/Cassie or Naomily.

Did you watch S7? I only saw the Cook episodes because I seriously can't stomach Naomily getting screwed again.
