Oh.... interesting observation. For me when it came to Clark/Lana... Lionel became my voice... only in the later season for some things.
But probably Lionel was forced to be anti!Clana season 5-6 because of Lex...

Jor-El was always trying to rip that boy away from Lana because she was an impediment on his journey towards his destiny.

Even as a Clana shipper, Lionel's lines were enjoyable because they were **Truth

He wanted Lana to try and save Lex from falling into the darkside(didnt work) and then to be a spy. Then he was worried about Lana because Clark was so blind to what she had become...and he knew.

He definitely knew Clark really well. He had to know everyone to play "chess" so well and be able to manipulate people...Lex obviously learned the same.

I just think its a fun head-canon that Lionel also on some level was trying to keep them apart.

He found a way to use other people's relationships against them to manipulate them. He knew how powerful it was. Of course Lex also used this against him when it came to Martha... Martha was Lionel's biggest weakness

I just liked the interesting scenes Lionel and Clark always seemed to have.
