Lily has given her many chances but Snape was humiliated and probably didn't want anything to do with the Marauders who was beginning to be Lily's friends. They were bullying him too. So he decided to join the Death Eaters instead who will most likely not bully him.

Yup, you are right about that. Lily is the only person Snape is close to and now he's losing her. It's sad really but this happens irl.
