Although as we know, wizards don't like magic exposed to muggles. That's why they're not allowed to use magic in muggle territory (and why the Flying Car had to be cloaked and why Jacob's memory had to be taken away). In a way, they're also protecting us by not letting us know magic exists but really, we should know magic exists!

If you recall, muggles don't necessarily embrace magic in this world. Remember Lily Potter's sister, Petunia Dursley? She was jealous of her because she can do magic and thinks she is a freak.

I think she was secretly jealous. She wants to be able to learn magic too (because she can't). And that's also the reason why the Dursleys hate Harry. Petunia probably made both Dudley & Vernon hate Harry too because of her inner jealousy against her own sister.

It's more of a sibling jealousy as Petunia secretly wanted to learn magic.

Petunia was the elder child of Muggles Mr and Mrs Evans and had a sister, Lily. However, Lily had many unusual abilities, such as making a flower's petals move without touching them, which her sister viewed with a mixture of envy and disapproval. One reason could have been because of the fact her parents praised Lily for her abilities and Petunia might have been jealous.

It probably didn't help that their parents encouraged Lily which made her jealous. I don't think she was particularly good at magic though. She can learn it but she wasn't really very good at it.

Sometimes I think it would've been different if Petunia & Lily were close and didn't have a rift. The fact that the Dursleys were mean to Harry also made Harry find a family in the Weasleys. I think in the end, Dudley & Harry got civil though. I have to read up.

Yeah, I agree.. I always wonder if Petunia wouldn't behave like that, Would the Dursleys would be different? I doubt that..

If Petunia & Lily were close, then Harry wouldn't even be staying at the cupboard under the stairs. He'd be living a happy life with his aunt, uncle & cousin. I still think Harry would want to avenge her parents' death but at least, it's not terrible when he's not in school.
