Yeah I definitely think she has real feelings for Spike

It wasn't because he didn't want her to throw her life away. He tossed the body of a murdered girl in the river like trash. He was going to let her be forgotten, no justice, nobody knowing what happened to her. He referred to her as just "one dead girl". He wasn't seeing Katrina as a person. The guilt of her death was causing an emotional toil on Buffy and he saw it as a casualty that doesn't tip the scale.

He repeated the words that Faith said in s3 when Buffy tried and failed to get her to understand that slaying is supposed to be about saving (remember Buffy told her spirit guide "Death is not a gift. If I have to kill demons to make the world a better place then I kill demons. But it is not a gift to anyone.") Remember that after Faith accidentally killed Deputy Finch, she dumped the body and tried to get on with her life as if it were just a mistake that should be ignored.

Faith: Nobody cares about the innocent bystander that gets caught in the crossfire.
Buffy: I care.

Compare it to when Buffy in S2's Ted, thought she accidentally killed a human. She turned herself in. She let herself be interrogated and investigated and her reputation worsened. And that was for a man that harassed and threatened her.

Buffy: He was a person and I killed him.

Buffy was already feeling so much shame in having sex with and finding solace in a soulless demon---enjoying his company, only feeling awake when with him---and Spike unintentionally just made it so much worse.

Spike was very right that Buffy shouldn't turn herself in, that she shouldn't jeopardize all the good she was capable of for one event that wasn't even her fault. But he went about it the wrong way.

I feel really bad for Spike (unlike Faith) since he genuinely didn't know how to handle the situation because of his lack of soul and spending decades with psychopaths (The Master, Darla, Angelus, Drusilla). But he was willing to learn. But Buffy needed the person she was sharing a bed (ha ha like they make it to the bed) with to know better. Especially when being the Slayer and the severe depression from being ripped out of Heaven was already causing her to feel less human.

This is one of the first times I already read that through the years.

I completely agree too.

Plus when Buffy was beating up Spike and saying those things I think it wasn't her talking about him as much of herself.

I figured he loved buffy and didn't want her to go down for one mistake...she does a lot of good!

That is true too.

It's what I call the William still in him as in his humanity.

We know with a soul he would have handled and been able to understand what Buffy was feeling.

This why I don't see how some fans say he is exactly the same b/c Spike before he got his soul back would have handled everything with Buffy diff. in Season 6. Like never telling her the way he did that Buffy came back wrong.

Spike is completely selfless and only wants Buffy to be happy but before that his love was mostly selfish.

Yeah William was still there and came out when Spike was selfless at times.

That's what made him able to feel a kind of love.

Spike's love before was more about obsession and doing anything to have Buffy.

That's what the speech that she belonged in the dark with him was about.

Spike was as much to blame fo their unhealthy relationship as Buffy.

That's why he was destroyed when he saw what he almost did.

You will see how amazingly selfless his love becomes.

It's big contrast to Angel even with a soul.

I wouldn't go that far.

Spike hated being human the first time.

I'm sure he would do it if it meant being with Buffy of course.

Spike's love for Buffy inspired him to want to be a good man again.

Plus he could have fought for that instead of his soul back.

This is what I was trying to say! I think your right human just didn't work for spike. That said I don't think he was pure evil I think he had humanity that was just hidden

That's Canon as well.

The Judge in Season 2 said Spike had humanity in him.

Angelus didn't.

Everybody basically that loved Spike before fell even more in love with him.

There are of course fans that loved him only Evil.

That's missing out on the best character journey ever written though.
