Katherine cast in 'Vegas Dick'

i am a major lurker, but as this news hasn't been posted yet, i thought i would come out of hiding to do it!

it was posted 2 hours ago on Yahoo! news:
"Roswell" star Katherine Heigl (news) has been cast in UPN's drama presentation "Vegas Dick."
"Vegas Dick" centers on a former con man who becomes a casino detective. Heigl will play the guy's boss, the daughter of the hotel and casino owner who serves as the hotel and casino's manager.
In addition to her starring turn on "Roswell," which ran on the WB and UPN, Heigl's credits include the features "Valentine" and "Bride of Chucky." She next appears in ABC's TV movie/backdoor pilot "Romy and Michele: Behind the Velvet Rope."

thats all that i have found out so far.

Hey, thanks for bringing that good news! Katherine certainly isn't hurting for projects, is she? Wow...glad to see so many Hollywood execs recognizing her talent.

What a title, though.

I think I read the script for this project a few years ago, but back then it was known as "Nevada Penis"

Here's what I found at "Variety." There was no mention of cast...I even did a search on Katherine. That's not to say she's not involved in the project, they just don't have any cast members listed yet.

"Vegas Dick" in mentioned a little further down in the article.
-------------------------------------------------------

UPN has ordered a trio of action-packed hours, while ABC has greenlit one more, as the networks put the finishing touches on this year's drama pilot pickups.
All three UPN orders come from studios outside of the Viacom family. Netlet had made it a priority to expand its development auspices (Daily Variety, Dec. 10).

Projects include "The Edge," from 20th Century Fox TV, about two recent FBI grads who pair up with a DEA agent to handle crimes on the Mexican border.

"The Edge" was written by Matthew Carnahan ("Fastlane") and will be exec produced by Carnahan and Scott Vila.

Also from 20th, along with Original Television, comes the pilot presentation "Vegas Dick."

Rich Wilkes ("XXX," "XXX2") wrote the script, about a former con man who becomes an inhouse detective at a Las Vegas casino. Original's Neil Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Parouse will exec produce; Wilkes will co-exec produce.

UPN also has picked up -- contingent on finding a showrunner -- the drama "Kamelot," from Miramax TV and Abandon Entertainment.

Project, from scribes Ron Milbauer and Terri Hughes ("Idle Hands"), is a retelling of the classic King Arthur story, this time as a young revolutionary overseeing a society in the future.

Wes Craven is on board to exec produce with Milbauer and Hughes.

ABC's pick

Over at the Alphabet web, the net has picked up the cast-contingent pilot "10-8," from Spelling TV and Touchstone TV.

Jorge Zamacona ("Homicide: Life on the Street") wrote the project and will exec produce, along with Aaron Spelling and E. Duke Vincent. "10-8" revolves around rookie cops and their training officers.

I think this is a UPN production, so...

Besides, the term "Dick" (in this case meaning a detective/cop) has been used before in Movies/TV - most notably the W.C. Fields classic, "The Bank Dick"

Well, although I welcome the chance to see Katherine on my TV screen every week, I'm going to be cautious.

Hopefully, this show won't suffer from horrible writing and terrible plot lines like some shows...

Also, I hope the producers aren't trying to rip off CSI. You really can't replicate that type of show if the whole thing takes place in a casino.

The best way to make this show work is for Katherine, the boss, to send the investigator to look into various hotel and casino complaints. Things like cheaters at the tables or food poisoning mixed in with the occasional major crime, like a murder or a armed robbery. A hostage situation may also work for say, a two-part episode. Also, not every episode should be about the guy's work. Episodes about their personal lives will help develop the characters in a big way.

Well there is not any talk of a regular show at the moment. Its been mooted as a possible pilot but it may just remain as a film.
