Makes sense

Episode I watched earlier this week had him lying to Olivia & Elliot I think it was saying Cragen told him he could take their suspect but really he hadn't spoken to Cragen at all. So then Cragen yelled at him for making his team think he'd gone behind their back when he hadn't

That sounds familiar. Is it still one of his earlier episodes too? It is probably one which shaped my opinion of him early on.

If I remember correctly he was more of an adversary at first and it is later on, possibly not until his relationship with Olivia, that they wrote him more relatable. It may have been earlier than that though.

Oh must be for sure. His early episodes his character was such an arse. It wasn't until later seasons that he seemed to make amends with the SVU team and then the relationship with Benson too.

I think he got better before then but the relationship allowed them to explore his character better

^^ The biggest plus with the Benson relationship was getting to know him more than just 'at work'.

There was such potential there. They could still explore it, but not the same as if they could have Tucker in it.

Probably only if/when they get Olivia and Elliot together and even then it may not seem relevant to the writers when it should be.
