I completely agree I think that Ned's death was something that no matter when it happened it would've shocked everyone

Although I think they did follow the book in regards to Ned's death? But they could still prolong it and then kill him off later, imo. It would still be shocking and heartbreaking.

Ned's death really was one of the biggest shocks for me in S1.

Same here... killing such an important character so quickly in a show was shocking... and just when I thought I couldn't get any more traumatized, the Red Wedding happened
