I did! We ate like pigs, and my sister and I stayed up till like 5am watching baking competitions

Aww that sounds nice!!! I get hooked on those shows too.

Mine was alright! It was calm and I liked it, but my parents missed all my other siblings so they were a tad emotional. But we had tons of leftovers, and played games all day!

Sounds relaxing! Understandable about your parents being emotional, I can't imagine a holiday without my sister and I think if that were to happen my mom and I wouldn't be able to celebrate.

Yeah it was strange, because even though we have had some without two of my siblings, my older sister who Lives here has always come over! So the quietness I think is what got my parents. They are used to the noise of the kids running around. Plus it was my nieces first major holiday, so my mom was upset to miss it. But it’s hard when you have family who live so far away, it’s not easy to visit often.

I totally get what that's like, when loved ones live far away it's not always an option to travel to see them even during the holidays, especially with covid still being such a big problem

Yeah financially it just can’t always happen. Same with Christmas! I will see my other sister and nephews on Christmas Day though. It’s just about making new traditions for the holidays, because it’s the worst time of year for us. With my other siblings being far away, and also Christmas Day was the very last time I saw my brother before he died. So this time of year is a sore spot for us, and we just don’t want “reminders” you know?

I know; the holidays can be wonderful and magical but they can also be a painful reminder of those no longer with us But it's as you say, it's about making new traditions.

Yes! We are gonna try a few new things this year, and hopefully they bring us joy instead of pain. For my parents, only putting up a Christmas tree and light on the house outside is all they wanted. We usually go all out decorating, but they wanted a change. They think it will help them get through the holidays better. We also have little things planned that we don’t typically do, so hopefully some new things help!

Who knows maybe one of the new things will become a favorite, and the new experiences will bring you all closer; I'm of the belief that the important thing is to do something and find ways to still celebrate because otherwise it can be easy to settle into the sadness and that's not good, and I don't think it's what those who are no longer with us would want.

Yes! I’ve brought that up to my family As well, because my brother was BIG on Christmas time. Maybe by next year things will be easier, I’m hoping anyways. Like we are gonna start going to look at Christmas lights once a weekend, just so we can get out and into the holiday spirit a bit.

It'll get easier with time, little by little; that's a good idea, it's a sure way to get into the holiday spirit plus it gets you at off the house and it's time spend together.
