It's been pretty interesting though. What a gritty performance by Simona Halep in 1st round win this week. Caroline plays in a few hours apparently. Wish her well.

Yeah it wasn't the same without Novak, Andy too!
A lot of players tend to struggle with aus, being at the start of the year. __________________

What do you mean? Do you think they shouldn't play in this tournament because it's in the 1st of of each year?
Looks like Caroline's going to lose today. Figures that would happen early. __________________

I guess. I mean the ''off season'' in tennis is usually I think pretty short for most pros, in theory compared to other sports they shouldn't be as rusty, though injuries perhaps play a role in that.
Monfils needs to get a good win vs. Djokovic today. That would be incredible. Unsure what was going on with Shapalov. He had the match almost won vs. Tsonga, but ended up losing. Hopefully Simona is ready tomorrow vs. Genie & Caroline wins her match. __________________

Yeah i guess, its just something I have always known, most players perform poorly in Aus compared to later in the year.
Great win for Novak today, he has never lost to Monfils and always seems to find a way. Glad Delpo got through too, against a tricky opponent. __________________

That heat seems brutal, almost inhumane. Monfils looked like he was about to pass out.
Wawrinka lost, but I am still happy he is back. And Del Potro won! He's my third favorite (on the men's side) after Nadal and Stan. So glad he won too. Kerber got through! Along with Caroline and Simona. What gutsy performances! Happy for them. Thanks for the updates, Rod. __________________

No. From what I saw of his match he didn't look healthy.
Tennis players such as in the top 5 or 10 in their rankings tend to take a month off after the Aussie Open anyway whether they play well in it or not I think. Disappointing performance by Genie Bouchard vs. Simona Halep. Oh well. Why don't they close the roofs available during 37 degrees Celsius/100 degrees Fahrenheit or hotter weather during these tournaments? I know it's about conditioning or partly, but I don't need to see people suffering to play tennis. I don't understand it. __________________

I hope Kerber beats Sharapova.

I agree about closing the room. So many players were fighting so hard just to survive the conditions and it wasn't fun to watch.

Yeah. It's just unnecessary, plus there's the fans to think about as well.
Terrific win by Caroline in hr 3rd round match! Wow. I didn't know when she was scheduled to play, so I stayed up on the West Coast past 3:00 A.M. to find out if she had played or not since my internet isn't working at home & then I finally fell asleep, but did get to see some of the 2nd set. That was dramatic! She had an issue with her racket. It was something, but glad she won of course. She plays Rybarikova next. Expecting Halep to win today. __________________
