Like Sarah said, hopefully she’ll respond better later, maybe after the surgery.

Man, my mom is having a rough night. She was just crying inconsolably, and I feel bad that I wasn’t able to make her feel better this time.

I’d really like to start up a GoFundMe to help her out financially, but I feel like she’d be embarrassed about it.

April, remember to take care of yourself, too. It's tricky, probably difficult to find the right words to say, so you won't be able to always make her feel better, which sucks, especially cause she's your mom. But you're doing your best, and I'm sure she appreciates you being there for her no matter what.

It’s so hard sitting on the phone listening to her sob, saying she thinks she’s getting punished for something. She’s mad, she’s sad, and she doesn’t deserve this.

That's devastating. Those feelings of being punished are pretty common in that situation, I would think. I would hate the feeling of it being something out of control.

Luckily she had a much better day today. It’s just a roller coaster. Some days she’s happy (although this is still in the back of her mind at all times), and some days she’s super down about it. Which is totally understandable. I’m just trying to be as steady and stabilizing as possible for her, but god, it just broke my heart last night to hear her cry like that.

She’s so tough. She’s having her surgery a few days after Christmas, and her body will be altered forever, and the recovery will be painful, and here she is just preparing herself to go through it. What a freaking badass.
