I feel like, two years ago, I would have crumbled under the stress of this. It really shows me how far I’ve come in dealing with my anxiety. (I may have already said that before. I don’t know.)

The "good" thing about facing tough times like this makes you realise your actual strength. And that it might even surprise yourself, to know how well you can cope.

Proud of you, April. Hope that you are getting the support you need and utilizing skills you've learned to deal with the stress.

Really scary hearing about some of the student survey results - so many students dealing with mental health issues and daunting situations.

That's sad, Amelia. Do they have access to therapy though? Or at least get educated on coping mechanisms in school?

I feel like schools are, in general, making a lot of strides when it comes to mental health services, but . . . what I’ve noticed is that sometimes older teachers aren’t as in touch with it. Maybe it’s a generational thing. They’re from a generation where things were often swept under the rug.

In March, I get to plan a whole month of content for all of our junior high students all about mental health.

The high school has someone come in for non-academic counseling on an as need basis, I think, or there are services periodically, but they really only have the academic counselors day to day. The middle schoolers... not so much access. There is like a county mental health services thing, but I don't know how affordable it is.

It's definitely a generational thing. They're looking at doing more teacher training as well, but we also need materials to share with the students, too.

That doesn’t sound like as many resources are available to them as there should be, Amelia. Is this a bigger school? I feel like sometimes big schools get spread really thin with resources.

It's actually a really small school and small district. Feel like they don't have enough money in the budget or that the money is being used for something else. Seemed like they're going to do follow up hopefully, with workshops for the teachers. I'd love to set up some type of thing for mental health awareness, even as a sub - I might bring it up at the next meeting if I can.

It's disheartening, yet not surprising, that not enough funding is given to deal with mental health issues in schools.

I'm not required to go to the meetings, but I like to go to them if I'm on campus those days just to keep in the loop since I'm there fairly often. At least for the high school.
