I get that it's a close call for me, but I just love V a little bit more

Partly I think it's because I watched Episode 6 for YEARS as a kid and never knew it was part of a trilogy. When I finally saw eps 4 and 5, I was underwhelmed.

I will say this though. I think Ep 7 has me seriously rethinking my like of eps 1-3. (well...more like 2 and 3) It's really highlighted for me just how not-great they are. They're very flawed, of course, but there was still a thread of the story that i enjoyed. But now that ep 7 has come out, and they can't even boast of better technology, they are just falling completely flat.

Most of my co-workers mostly know David Bowie from his appearance in the movie Labyrinth.

Really?

Really??

Really???

Let me copy you for a second here and just say...

He's a huge part of the soundtrack of my life, man. I've been so sad today.

Rae, yeah I agree ep 1 - 3 just reeaaally don't hold up... I never was a huge fan but especially after The Force Awakens it's just so glaringly obvious how not great they are

I was never one to say they were great, or even good, but I still liked episodes 2 and 3. Now though...

Haven't listened to him myself a lot during my life, but my dad is a huge fan of Bowie. Got quite a sad e-mail from him today, including a link to his last video, that broke my heart a little bit

Ah, that’s a bummer, Mascha.

Same here, Val. My dad was/is a huge music and movie fan, so I also grew up with David Bowie.

As far as SW is concerned, I can’t even remember what happened in eps 1 and 2 since I could only handle watching each once.

Yeah I've also only seen eps 1 - 3 once each I did uhmm acquire them again recently, so I might have to watch them again at some point... But blah

My parents weren't all that much into Bowie, I mean they liked him but it wasn't something that really was listened to in our household unless he came up on the radio or something. I got into him myself in my mid teens, and especially from then until my early 20's I listened a whole lot to him, right in the years I feel were shaping me into the person I am today. Then a couple years later the tv show Life on Mars started which uses a lot of his music (as the title might suggest ) and that hugely rekindled my love for him again. It just feels so strange, he was one of those people that had always been there and it kind of felt like he always would be, you know

My dad is from the early fifties, so he more or less grew up in the sixties & seventies, and he was a bit of an outsider, and got into all rocky & trippy music available back then Lots of artists he started to love back then (David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Talking Heads, Velvet Underground, etc.) he's still really into. But he often listened to this kind of music in his own study, so I didn't even really grow up with it. My mom is more into classical music (she's a professional musician), and her 'study' was also our living room, and she also always put on music when she was cooking, preparing Sunday's breakfast etc., so in the end, I really grew up more with classical music than rock.

^ Same.
I began to get into the more obscure artists around 13 or 14.
Most of my peers didn't know what I was talking about... and then in 11th grade, I met a small group of weirdos (and not the trendy ones, either but the uncool ones )...

They totally are yeah I also started to get into more obscure music by age 13 or 14. Well, I say "obscure", at first I was really into Nirvana, I guess that was considered obscure if everyone else still listened to Backstreetboys

Your dad sounds a lot like my dad, Mascha! My dad was in one of those psychedelic hippie bands in the 70's actually, they made a couple LPs that are apparently seen as cult classics now, it's hilarious to me but I'm also pretty proud

Mehh I had a weird experience at physical therapy today, he made me do some breathing exercises and suddenly I got the worst sharp pain in my lower abdomen, I got super dizzy and jittery and had a hot flash or something and I couldn't really talk, it was really weird they made me lie down for a bit and after a couple minutes it started to get a little bit better, but I still feel it a bit if I breathe in too deep now, so I'll definitely be taking it easy for the rest of the day!

My 'obscure' music included Within Temptation, Evanescence (I knoooooow, but in comparison with a lot of things that were popular around 2005, that's really obscure, ok?! ) and some bands that fall into the same catagory, but less well-known and slightly more obscure

Funny how your music taste (and everything around that) gets shaped around the age of 14

Exactly this, indeed! The artists/band that were considered 'weird' in the 70s, but are now seen by specialists as some of the greatest albums/artists in (recent) history My dad really likes to brag about that

That sounds scary, Val

Whoohoo, the package I ordered was actually delivered on time today! Bought myself a new camera/hiking backpack
Pfff... just wanted to get some groceries, but it suddenly started raining like crazy Think I'll stay inside for just a littlebit longer...

Awww, Val. I hope you feel better tomorrow. That story about your dad is pretty cool.

Mascha, did you purchase those items for your trip in February?

Here's a pic from one of the times I was in Washington state. It was taken in summer, which can still be fairly cold up there. I'm placing it here since we were discussing it in the Chloe thread.

And here's a pic of one of my kittens, Delilah, a.k.a Lil' Black Beauty in mid-yawn. It's like she knows I'm posting a pic of her. She's all over my laptop right now.
