I understand what you mean. I am happy for one that she published TKAM and that this older draft (still not sure she wanted it published after her initial writing of it but that's another issue) was scrapped by a very discerning editor at the time. Atticus is one of those heroes who make an impression on you and it's very relatable in terms of learning why racism is wrong and has institutionalized affects. So this new or old Atticus is very hard to swallow because it is a major disconnect for me.

I'm excited for the return but Haleb is making me really sad.

I kind of liked that it worked that way, and that it wasn't shown as his way of trying to stay connected to Hanna. He was doing what he was in a way, to help Hanna, but it was more for Emily than anything, and he seemed to like spending time with Spencer.

I haven't really got to any Atticus parts, it's more about Jem being dead. I think I will struggle with Atticus being different, though. I have so much respect for him from the first book, and his choice to struggle with doing what's right as opposed to doing what's easy for himself and his family (even if he didn't have a choice but to do the job, he chose to do the job to the best of his ability).

I'm kind of torn right now. This jump could work, and the arcs between all of the characters could be great, but they could also completely mess it up.

It's been a beautiful transition to see his character.

Pre-Ravenswood, I didn't care much about him and Haleb. And, honestly, I still don't really care about Haleb in the sense that I don't care about any relationship on this show. The romance bores me. But Caleb as a character has really grown on me because of his involvement in -A and his relationships with the girls. We've got a lot of green Spencer/Caleb throughout the seasons. And he hired Sara for Emily. He cares about the girls as people, not as his girlfriend's bffs.

I always cared about Caleb, but their connecting him to Spencer made me love him more. He has improved over the seasons though, showing more and more that he cares about all of the girls. It's been great to watch and I really hope it continues.
