This is probably my favorite of all of Mary's outfits throughout the run of the show so far. Michelle Dockery really has the elegant, willowy frame to pull of these flowy gowns!

As far as Mary goes... I go back and forth on being really annoyed with her and feeling more empathetic towards her.

She's just so damn mean to Edith, for no discernible reason. (And I mean pre-Pamuk here.) Maybe if we had a little more backstory for "this is why Mary hates Edith," I would understand, but as of the first episode we just see Mary taking as these really low shots at Edith. Not cool, Mary!

I think to answer angela12 question is that the viewer is supposed to assume that Mary feels like the golden child at least pre-pamuk and war, her parent assume she will marry the heir so they turn a blind eye on her actions/behaviour. Maybe Mary used Edith to take out her frustrations and resentments b/c she feels forced into a marriage she doesn't want. I don't know if this helped a bit?

I understand what you mean by wanting to know why at least. As for me, there will always be that sibling rivalry present between sisters, big or small. While I get being annoyed at your sister (I have 2 younger sisters too), being mean is a no-no of course. I didn't like how she treated Edith at the flower show in 1x05 but we don't know what goes on insider Mary's mind. She's always at Edith's throat, even suggesting to her mom that they focus on her because she seems hopeless. Everything changed in s2 though.

I agree with this. She's angry at her life. It would've been easier if she has an older brother but unfortunately that isn't the case. Can you imagine if all the sisters are sweet and kind? That'll be boring for me.
