Rumple does truly love Belle and wants to be with her, but a part of him thinks she's too good for him. And I don't think it's just because he's the Dark One. At core, Rumple is still that poor, downtrodden spinner. And Belle is a noblewoman. Of course he thinks (or thought) he needs power to be worthy of her..

I have to wonder, though, if Belle calling Rumple her "true love" in Family Business and telling him she just wanted him in winter finale had an impact on him, as he's still wearing his wedding ring? I mean, she has never said such things to him before. Actually, no one has. So maybe that's why he hasn't just given up?

I'm thinking that whenever he comes back, he will really work to make amends and Belle will forgive him. Right now he's emotionally lost, and she feels the same way ... and probably alone since she knows she's the one who sent him away.

To an extent, Rumple protects himself emotionally with masks and roles he assumes. I think there's always been this part of him that believes he'll be rejected once people see past that to the real him.

This makes what Belle said doubly ironic. She's always seen past the mask. But, when she saw only "the beast" she could no longer see the "real" Rumple.

Hasn't she said such things to him before? Like, in their wedding vows? Or heck, when she kissed him in the Dark Castle.

The problem has never been Belle saying how much she loves him; the problem has been Rumple being able to hear and believe it. And I DO think he heard it at the town line.

She told Bae she loves both parts of him but in her wedding vows she said she believed the beast was gone and at the town line she said all she sees is the beast. Yes she also said that she sees his flaws but I think Rumple thinks that she sees him through rose colored glasses. He has been so beaten down in life that it is hard for anyone in his position to believe that Belle won't leave him because everyone else is. Belle has tried to convince him of the truth but he has 300+ years of broken spirit and hardened walls which he has let some of them down but than Zelena happened and what happened at the town line. I think we should be prepared for anything when he returns.

My loins are girded. I'll probably watch the premiere but I'm not sure I'm in for the rest of the half season.

That gifset is perfection. There are so many similarities between Rumbelle and Scarlet Queen. I so hope Ana shows up soon (and my fingers are crossed for the eventual Rumbelle/ScQ double dates).

I love Belle and want her and Rumple to be together. BUT, I have always thought she saw him as the man she knew he could be and not the reality of the man he currently is. It's kinda like the girl who falls in love with an alcoholic and marries him thinking her love will change him. It won't. Change is an internal process. He has to want it. Maybe her banishment is the kick up side the head that he needed to actually want to change. The burden of that change is on him, not her. She cannot save him, he has to do it for himself. It is something both of them needs to come to grips with.

I think Belle absolutely meant she loves all of him, even the dark parts. BUT, that doesn't mean she should ever have to look the other way while he murders people. HIs betrayal was huge and that is not something anyone should have to put up with even if you love someone.

Addicts' marriages break up all the time. Doesn't make it the other spouse's fault. If the person doesn't want to change and constantly chooses their addition over their spouse, then the spouse has a right to want a better life after a certain point, imo.

I think they need to do something about this though and not have this addiction to magic story drag on for the rest of the series. I think people are losing patience with it.
