The angst in 4x01 was so perfect. And it was type of angst between them that I wanted all season 3.

Yeah I agree. The angst they had in 3x01/3x02 was really great too. I wanted it to continue like that all season and I truly expected it to with how it seemed. Such a disappointment. But I'm glad we had what we did because some really great angsty moments came out of it.

Well, not all season, but I wish we got to see more longing looks & to see that they were bothered by each other being with other people

yeah that is what I wanted. We saw how bothered Zoe was when he was "with lemon" and how bothered Wade was with Zoe being with Joel so maybe we could have gotten that. It would have been much better than what we got when Wade was with Vivian. I didn't want them back together yet. I think it would be too soon...

Considering how crazy Zoe got when Wade first asked Vivian out, I would have liked to see how that bothered her a bit more, because, even though she didn't want to overstep her boundaries, she was obviously still going to be bothered by it

Yeah, after that first episode when she tried to stop them from going out, she seemed to be all cool and collected about them as a couple, but we knew that she really wasn't. I would have liked to see that more.

They really should have done more. We had to do so much fanwanking through out season 3. I get it to some degree. Wade did cheat and Zoe was hurt far more than she expected since she never allowed herself to see that the picture in her head had changed. She needed Joel to fully realize that and Zoe needed to see Wade in a relationship to get to that point but the show should have done a better job at connecting the dots. We shouldn’t have had to do it ourselves.

Yeah, exactly. Well said. I agree. It was not the fact that Wade was with Vivian, and Zoe was with Joel that bothered me as much. In a way I think we needed to see that they were trying to move on from each other, but couldn't. But I think they needed to keep Wade/Zoe relevant through it all. I sort of felt as if their reconnection in 3x21 was in some way out of nowhere because they didn't have any real meaningful scenes together related to their relationship in multiple episodes. I think it would have worked if written differently.

I agree, we had to work soooo hard to figure out what the writers were trying to do & pick up on all the little hints, but we should really have to do that. Casual watchers should be able to make sense of it all too, for them ZW reconnecting would seem like it had no build up - which it kinda did. The execution was just pretty terrible

Yeah, exactly. And I mean, subtle hints are great and all, but they weren't something that was picked up on until multiple episode watches. When we were watching for the very first time, that wasn't something we were paying much attention to. Now I see that there was build up throughout the season, but I think it was something that needed to be in your face And the subtle hints are just little extras.
