Oh, so all the other mutants are kids as well? Sorry, I didn't get that. But the relationship between Moyer and Acker's characters does get more interesting as the show progresses. But the most notable X-Men characters on The Gifted are Polaris, Blink, and Thunderbird.

So TTP is about superpowers as well?

Thanks, Nina. Nashville got me interested early on, but then depressed me really quickly.

After a few warms days it got cold again. Man, I cannot wait for March and milder temps.

Yeah basically. I had a slight interest in Polaris because I remember Emma Dumont fondly from "Bunheads" and "Aquarius". Okay, it's likely I watch it soon, so I don't mind spoilers, how does their Acker/Moyer's relationship on the show evolve?

Yes, it's a remake of a show from the 1970s.

It's undebatable that they took a lot of wrong turns. And the thing is, I never liked Juliette. That is not to say that I don't like Hayden, I do, but I just can't with this character she's playing on the show. And now without Rayna as somebody who keeps her in check it's just extra painful.

It took me half an hour to dig out my car today. The snow was frozen to a layer of ice that was frozen to the car.

Polaris is a good character. I'm only a bit annoyed that they have her involved with this Eclipse character because he doesn't exist in the comics and is only loosely based on the character Sunspot from The New Mutants. Polaris is traditionally the love interest of Havok, who is the brother of Cyclops. Well, Acker is Caitlin Strucker, the wife of Moyer's character, Reed Strucker, who is a prosecutor of mutant criminals, or mutants who simply break the law by accidental use of their powers. But what he doesn't know is that their children are also mutants, and while Caitlin is a nurse who goes on the run with their kids to get help from the mutant underground, Reed is captured by Sentinel Services and makes a deal with them to help them track the mutant underground in exchange for his family's freedom and safe passage out of the country. But Reed reneges on the deal and gets locked up with Polaris, and the mutant underground arranges a breakout with the help of Caitlin and her children, Lauren and Andy.

Reed and Caitlin's relationship gets a little rocky due to their conflicting ideas on what they should do, help the underground or go to Mexico. They even seek help from Caitlin's brother which leads to an unfortunate confrontation with his neighbors that Polaris, Thunderbird, and Eclipse have to rescue them from. Reed eventually becomes an ally of the underground after he learns from his father that he is also a mutant, as well as his father. They both inherited the X-gene from the Strucker Twins, who had the same powers as Lauren and Andy. Reed's dad did experiments on him to repress the X-gene, which Reed assumed was childhood pneumonia. This revelation causes Reed and Caitlin to finally team up and seek a deal with the agent from Sentinel Services, which doesn't initially go well. Reed and Caitlin are manipulated by a telepath, Esme, who tricked them into confronting the Sentinel Services agent in an attempt to free her two sisters(they are triplets) who are all working with the newly reformed Hellfire Club and want the underground to join up with them.

Yeah, I do think that without Rayna, Juliette has no stabilizing influence. Ironically, Rayna was better for Juliette's stability than Avery. I was hoping she'd be Juliette's mentor, but Connie Britton had other interests to pursue, and now she's on Fox's 911, which is yet another Ryan Murphy series. Britton starred in Murphy's hit American Horror Story in the first season.

Damn, really Nina? The snow and ice all melted here because of the warm temps and rain Thursday and Friday. But now it got cold and windy again.

I got everything from the first paragraph... remember I watched the first two episodes.

Quote:

That sounds interesting, at last... at least. As I said, wasn't too interested in the rest.

You know, that whole thing about family and experiments is again so reminiscent of "The Tomorrow People". Going back to the original 70s show but more so in the 2014 remake. It's like all these shows blur into each other at some point.

Yes because Rayna was more like a mother figure and was in a position to tell Juliette what's what, whereas Avery... you always get the feeling that he feels if not inferior to Juliette's success but he gives her too much leeway – maybe partly out of love, partly out of respect for all that she has been for and built but really, the only time he stood up to her was when he got custody of Cadence... well, he told Juliette to leave it alone when he was taking care of Scarlett after the latter's breakdown and Juliette acted all jealous but ultimately Scarlett relieved him from having to do anything further by withdrawing from the situation so as not to cause any more problems for Avery.

I'm not sure what really prompted Britton's departure... perhaps the change of network from ABC to CMT after all.

Yeah, it was great... no snow yesterday when I got home, then an ice/snow storm last night.

Yeah, like I said, it did pick up more after the first couple of episodes. So did the other storylines. But again, they were limited this season due to a short season order of only 13 episodes, and by what characters they were allowed to use due to the studios using most for the X-Men movies. That's why I'd hope that the studio would allow them to have Alex Summers on the show as Polaris' love interest now that the movies are no longer using him after killing him off in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Wait, there was a show in the 70's called The Tomorrow People? I've never heard of it. But yeah, I guess these shows do start to look similar. Perhaps Heroes was also inspired by it?

Yeah, I think that Britton didn't like the change in the direction of the show and ABC's decision to drop the series. And I guess she was probably hoping that Ryan Murphy had something else waiting in the wings for her. I'm surprised she didn't go back to American Horror Story like Lily Rabe, Evan Peters, and Sarah Paulson did. Jessica Lange left the show after season 4, sadly.

You know, I don't wish any harm on Juliette, but I really don't want Avery wasting his time on her when she's really not good for him. And without Rayna as a balance on the show, I'm not sure if Juliette's character can be maintained. And Avery got custody of their daughter? Good for him. And OMG, is that what happened between Scarlett and Avery, and Juliette is now the one who's jealous? Okay, I'm sure that's not gonna lead to any more complications later in this season.

I'm sorry you got more snow up there. I think New York has been getting hit with more snow and cold than we've been getting down here in Philly. Only 66 more days until Spring, Nina.

Yes, as I've already told you in my previous two posts: the 2014 show was a remake.

Avery got custody very early on. As for the other thing, it was really ridiculous, when Scarlett was on tour and her abusive mother showed up, making her life hell and Avery obviously knew the situation because he and Scarlett had dated for a long time so when Scarlett was hospitalised he went to visit her and Juliette couldn't stand it and insisted on accompanying him to the hospital. Avery left to get coffee (and talk some sense into Scarlett's mother I think) and then it was Scarlett and Juliette alone, where the latter said something to like "you're not the only one with complicated relationship with your mother" – I mean yeah, true enough but really it was some absurd "hands off my man" thing that was underlying what Juliette said. Everyone on boards or tvline seems to be complaining about Scarlett and that she's so whiny and whatnot but I really do not see it, I mean she has her moments, but who doesn't. So in that situation.... I mean she and Avery were friends and she was certainly not looking to steal him away from Juliette. So I think she just let him go though she really could have needed his support as a friend because she didn't want to cause him any more trouble with crazy jealous Juliette.

Yeah, I don't know... what does Spring even mean? I can just see it, my landlord will take it as an excuse to switch off the heat and then we'll go through a bout of cold temperatures till June.

Oh, yes you did. I'm sorry, Nina. I'm modding on several of by boards at once and I got distracted.

I wasn't watching the show after Juliette had her baby, so I barely remember Avery getting custody. And OMG, Scarlett's mom showed up again? I thought she left town after refusing to give Deacon a kidney? Yeah, Juliette's mom was messed up too, but at least she sacrificed herself for her daughter.

Wow, seems like Juliette is the whiny one. I honestly don't know why people give Scarlett such a hard time considering all of Juliette's insecurities. Perhaps even though Scarlett and Avery are just friends now, Juliette still thinks their bond is something to feel threatened by? I mean, she and Avery are together, but you can't exactly say that they're "friends" as well as lovers. Maybe that's what really gets to her, the fact that Scarlett doesn't have to lean on Avery, yet they still have that closeness. And I get that Scarlett doesn't want to make trouble for Avery given the situation with Juliette, but I think that her influence on him is more positive than Juliette's is.

It usually gets warm here around April, Nina. That's why baseball season begins in April. You won't have to wait until June.

On the one hand I understand, on the other, it makes it hard to have a conversation at times.

Yeah, she gave Deacon the kidney eventually and then died.

That's the thing, I think. It's impossible to be friends with Juliette – like we could see last year with the nice lady, Haley, from the church choir who sat with her after the plan crashed. They were "friends" until Juliette got jealous of Haley for no reason whatsoever.

Yeah, maybe in Pennsylvania. I have my doubt where New York/New England is concerned.

Yes, I know. I try to stay focused.

Oh, so she did die? I think I missed that part. I wasn't sure.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. For all of their problems, Avery and Scarlett still had each other's backs and were friends even after they broke up. I really don't see the appeal of being with Juliette because it's just too much damn work. And I didn't watch the show after the plane crash, and I think that was the last episode I saw before the show left ABC. And Juliette got jealous of her as well? See, that's a sign of a possessive personality who suffers from anxiety. I'm surprised Juliette hasn't become an addict or suffered a aneurysm by now.

I think New York gets pretty warm by April as well, Nina. You'll have to wait and see, but it's really not that bad in Springtime here.

Well, wasn't there some sort of addition storyline – when she was taking all these painkilers and drinking, then she almost jumped off the roof but Jeff Fordham of all people saved her and died in the process. And I suppose if she really falls in with that cult now it'll be some sort of addiction.

Well, it really depends in my experience. I have lived here before as you remember. So no, I wouldn't say that's true as a general rule. I felt there was never something I would actually call spring here.

Was it addiction? I don't know if she ever went to rehab or anything. And yeah, I missed that part where Jeff died as well. I missed out on a lot during that final season on ABC. I was depressed about Teddy, to be honest. But this cult thing is a bit too soap opera if you ask me. I saw the exact same thing happen to Kelly on Beverly Hills 90210.

Yeah, I remember you telling me you've lived here before. I've never lived in New York, so I only know the Philadelphia area, but we're not that far away. We usually get similar weather. But I think Europe does get warmer faster in Springtime for some reason having to do with the Jetstream, as well as that warm air you get coming up from Africa across the Mediterranean Sea. Arinna gets that warm air. But April here on the East Coast still isn't all that bad, Nina. It depends on the year. Some are warm, some can be a bit chilly. But it hardly ever feels like winter.

I think she was in rehab, yes.

I find it's very different. Especially upstate. I actually do think it is that bad, especially in comparision.

Damn, so Juliette is a train wreck. I just don't want her to drag Avery down with her. Again, I still think Scarlett is better for him, and Gunnar and Scarlett is just boring me.

Well, yeah, upstate New York gets much colder, especially places like Buffalo. They did play the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, remember?

And I have to go to bed soon, Nina. I have work tomorrow and I have to get up at 4am, so I'll see you tomorrow, hopefully! Have a good night and sleep well!

I feel the same way.

Lake Placid is nice in autumn/summer.

Goodnight.
