Ok I'm just going to be lazy and skip the last round
My answer for day 5 is: Sky People While I have issues with how alot of audience members portray and perceive the Grounders, __________________

Even though anyone who knows me knows I'm going to have a different answer, what Sarah quoted is a good point, Amelia. And perhaps, if they took the time to explore that history more, I might be more . . . empathetic, possibly even sympathetic towards them.

Yup, TBH I'm uncomfortable when some try to paint one side as truly good or bad (not anyone on this board of course) because it's not so black and white. It really isn't. For example, I vehemently don't think that Grounders should be regarded as savages in any way or form (which I've definitely heard them being referenced to) and that just brings about uneasy real life connotations about Arkers being colonists and Grounders being the indigenous people who get suppressed by the colonists. I may disagree with a lot of their actions but that sort of comparison, it's just not right.
And do I feel frustrated with Skaikru sometimes and want to smack them silly for their dumb decisions? For sure! But ultimately, I buy into their story and I'm invested ... they're human and they make mistakes and they learn and grow from them, just like we do learn from our mistakes (hopefully) in RL too. __________________

There is no "good" or "bad" IMO and that's basically what a huge chunk of the premise of the show is. When people HATE the Sky People or HATE the Grounders I raise my eyebrows just a little bit, at least without seeing an explanation why.

No one likes Ontari.
Thats an amazing gifset Paula! Day 5: Skaikru or Grounders? Skaikru This was a no-brainer to me. I mean, all of my favorite characters are skaikru so I really had no other choice? I think there are some amazing grounder characters out there but the majority of my favorites are skaikru. Like was mentioned before I think a bit part of that has to do with the fact that these are the main characters of the show and we got to know their story in season 1 and how they learned to adapt to the new life on earth. And even though I dont always agree with their decisions I think I understand the Skaikru's reasons for certain decisions, in particular, Clarke and Bellamy's decisions. They have become the true leaders of the skaikru in my eyes and seeing that they are my favorites I obviously will always choose the sky people. [x] |

Such pretty sets, Paula and Alexa. Alexa, I also love that we got to see them adapting to life on Earth.

Alexa, I'm with you, I understand the reasons for their decisions more, particularly Clarke and Bellamy.
I love Paula's simple, to the point writing in her Lincoln post. it's awesome. |

*Peeks at Day 6 before doing Day 5*
Ah, that's an interesting one. I think I have mine. And it's not the person people are gonna expect me to pick. |

Skaikru or Grounders? Skaikru AF This was such an obvious decision for me, and literally no one is surprised. I've been quite open about how I tend to dislike the grounders. All in all, I just feel like the grounders haven't really done a whole lot to be forgiven or redeemed. It started with spearing Jasper back in the Pilot, and then waging a war on teenagers. It escalated towards a betrayal at Mt. Weather, and the hostility has continued since then. Those delinquents never wanted a war. They were just trying to survive, and maybe if the grounders hadn't unleashed a wave of violence on them right from the start . . . but I digress. Even though I'm a big Skaikru fan, I recognize that they're far from perfect. They've made mistakes, too, and yes, I know that aspects of the conflict with the grounders have come as a result of their actions. (Pike and Co. in season three, for instance.) The thing is, even when they're making the wrong choices, I totally understand why they're doing what they are. I can understand something without justifying it. (S3 Bellamy, perhaps.) Both the grounders and Skaikru have faults, but I love Skaikru far more because I ultimately feel like they are held more accountable for their decisions. Which makes sense. It is their story we are seeing unfold, as others have pointed out. It makes sense that their descents into darkness and subsequent pursuits of redemption are the ones that are more fully fleshed out. I don't feel we often see that with grounders. Characters like Clarke and Bellamy, in particular, go through so much hardship and make so many difficult decisions, but we see them both grappling with the consequences of those decisions, sometimes learning from them, sometimes repeating the same or similar mistakes later. Ultimately, too, when at least 8 (possibly 9) of my favorite characters are Skaikru, of course I prefer them. It's just really quite the no brainer for me. Ultimately, I'm not anti-grounder. I'm just really not their biggest fan. |
