I hadn't thought of that scene like that before, you're right. It says so much about them. Bellamy made protecting his sister his lifetime mission, so it's only natural for him to think of each one of the 100, and not of them as a whole. Clarke kind of started off a lot more like Bellamy, she cared more back then. She got hardened with time, with what the earth made her face, but also, her father died for a secret that meant to save the greater good, the whole, in spite of some casualties, so Clarke already came down to earth with that strategical mind of the whole. She came from an environment that thought and worked like that, sacrificing here and there for the good of the overall population. You can't rule if you don't think both ways, and that's why they're the perfect co-leaders.

And it breaks my heart to realise Bell felt each death like that

Again, the gender roles. It's usually the mom that is portrayed as more caring and the dad as more pragmatic, and yet Bell is the one who worries about each of them individually and hugs them and encourages them, while Clarke's got the house administration as a whole in mind, the survival, the means to survive. They revert the old stereotypes that still find their way nowadays. And yet, because they don't have roles at all, Clarke's the doctor, the healer, a traditionally "mom" role, and Bell is the more aggressive one who can be hot headed, a traditional "dad" role. They're both roles at once and none.
