I'm watching TVD Season 6 in its entirety now (when it aired I only watched here and there) and can see some different chemistry between them in the beginning of the season which is kind of fun, like when Stefan tells her how to reinvent yourself as a vampire and "proposes" to her. Then for a long while, they hardly interact at all. However, when Stefan decides to turn off his humanity, he asks Elena to make sure he comes back. Strange he didn't ask Damon, for example.

I have to say in Season 6 I'm really confused as to where the characters are. Damon actually seems the most evolved, and doesn't act out when Elena forgets him, which seems weird to me. Nice, but weird. I didn't like Stefan at all in the beginning of Season 6. He seemed really out of character. I kind of get that he would want to forget what happened to Damon and run away, but at the same time, I don't get it. He's just never acted this way before, that I can remember, acting all nihilistic, not caring about anyone except superficially. At the same time, we see a flashback when he did run away, and was happy being apart from Damon and with his family (Zack) until Damon catches up with him and kills Zack's pregnant wife. Why then not feel free that Damon is gone?
(And then he can feel guilty about it, since that's what Stefan does.)

I see how easy it would have been for Elena to break up with Damon since she doesn't remember him when he gets back from the prison world. I suppose it would be kind of a cheat, however, since they were apparently "so in love" before Damon disappeared with Bonnie (I missed a lot of S5--I got sick of the show force-feeding me stuff). I suppose they had to fall in love again dramatically speaking--but did they have to stay in love? Also, why did Stefan have to develop romantic feelings for Caroline? Why not still love her but as a friend? It's not a lesser love, just different. What I saw in S5 of their friendship was deep and lovely. Instead, it is predictable that he is her emotional trigger when she loses her humanity. Why not have the trigger be her mother in some way just as Stefan's is his mother?

I'm about 3/4 of the way through the season. Many of you have said they could have easily got Elena and Stefan back together again in Season 6, in a natural way, BEFORE she goes under the sleeping curse. How? t (As I said earlier, I think it'd be a cheat by using only Ric's compulsion to separate Elena and Damon. The only way that seems realistic to me is if Damon were gone longer, say a year or more, so Elena has more time to move on without him.)

Or is it Damon who moves on and realizes he doesn't love Elena like he used to? (Being away from Elena and with Bonnie seems to change him)

Or would it work better if the actress could come back earlier in S8, and if so, how would Elena and Stefan get back together at that point?
