I like it when creators of a show keep a tight leash, as you say, on the writers. I like that their vision is the one that matters most. It makes me trust them more.

I agree. Also, I'm showing my mom the show from the beginning and with almost any show it took her several episodes to really get into it and the episode that sealed the deal for her was "Okay Awesome", the one where they go to the club. And I remember watching that one as well and thinking, yeah this is it. I think it's a really under appreciated episode but so so so funny. It was that one and "The Sweet Taste of Liberty" beforehand that sold me on the show I think. But that may have been more because it was lots of Barney and I'm from Philadelphia.

I think Okay Awesome was the one that sold me, too. That was a Chris Harris episode - he's written some of my absolute favourite ones (Ten Sessions, Okay Awesome, Game Night, Mary the Paralegal, Arrivederci, Fiero) and some that I think are a bit so-so. Like The Scorpion and the Toad, We're Not from Here and Everything Must Go.

I'm glad I'm not alone!
You really know your writers Rach! I'm going to make a point from now on to pay more attention when an episode airs. |

Its a shame that Gloria Calderon Kellet left the show after season 3. I think she and Greg Malins...and Chris Harris are my favorites on staff. Gloria's How I Met Everyone Else, First Time In New York, and Drumroll, Please are amazing!

She wrote Showdown and The Duel, too. In fact I think those two (and Drumroll Please) are my favourites of hers!

I love the Duel! I started to rank season one as I watch it with my mom, and we've gotten through the first disc and so far it goes:
Okay Awesome The Duel The Sweet Taste of Liberty Return of the Shirt Pilot Matchmaker Purple Giraffe ****ty Pumpkin |

Ted's best man speech in Showdown was so great and well written. A highlight of the series, IMO.

I can't remember my exact order of all of them, (I made a list when we did S1 survivor) but my top 10 are these (working down the list the more I like them!):
The Limo (Sam Johnson & Chris Marcil) Sweet Taste of Liberty (Phil Lord & Chris Miller) Game Night (Chris Harris) Okay Awesome (Chris Harris) The Duel (Gloria Calderon Kellett) Mary the Paralegal (Chris Harris) Zip, Zip, Zip (Brenda Hsueh) Nothing Good Happens After 2AM (Craig & Carter) Come On (Craig & Carter) The Pineapple Incident (Craig & Carter) So Craig & Carter, and Chris Harris wrote most of my top S1 episodes! (And I'll admit to having to look a few of those up. ) __________________

Nice! I like the list. It's so hard to rank, I might move some around. Is the S1 Survivor thread still around? I'd love to go back and take a look!

It is, somewhere! It'll be a couple of pages back I would think, but it's definitely there!

Completely. They know how to handle BR that's for sure. And the goat lived up to the hype, and the entire Leap metaphor becoming literal was so funny and so touching for the finale.
