hah! wow, good article, I didn't even realize that...

They should come down a little bit to the classic episodes...
When you read it like this, it does sound ridiculous...

Like I said, I agree with a lot of the points.

While I still love the show, there are times where I'm just, "um, okay?" at some of their stories. And overall, for me, the writing isn't as strong now as it was even a few seasons ago, so I think part of that is why as well.

I feel like some of the points in this article I've seen discussed on other sites.

But like the writer, I'll stick with the show until the end.

‘Criminal Minds’ Matthew Gray Gubler on Directing Killer Clown Episode | TVLine

MGG addresses the Barnes arc:
Quote:
TVLINE | Turning to this season as a whole, is the Barnes business all behind us now?
Barnes is pretty neatly wrapped up.

TVLINE | Prentiss pretty masterfully threw Barnes (played by Kim Rhodes) under the bus last week. I was cheering from my couch.
Kim Rhodes is incredible, so it was a real pleasure and honor to work with her. But that’s all done. The clown episode is a completely standalone episode, which is the kind I like to direct. Anybody can watch it for the first time and not know anything about the show and have a beginning, middle, and end that’s satisfying without any loose ends.

So, what was the point of that arc then? There are still so many holes. Why was Barnes so set on going after the BAU? Were she and the director really on the same page?

Once again, they hyped a story and it ended up not living to the potential (in my opinion at least).

news on the finale

I need some clarification about Criminal Minds. Although you have it listed as a “safe bet” on the Renewal Scorecard, the season finale has been moved to 18 April. This is starting to look and sound like a series finale. So what gives? Is it the end of the season or the series? —Amanda
Multiple sources tell TVLine that, given that Season 13 ends with a heart-in-your-throat cliffhanger, there is every reason to believe that the show will be renewed. And if it’s not, there are going to be millions of pissed-off fans lamenting the lack of closure. (Matthew Gray Gubler echoed the “great cliffhanger” tease, then proceeded to basically tell me which lives will be in jeopardy, but I’ll keep that to myself. For now.)

"Heart in your throat" cliffhanger implies it'll involve at least one member of the team.

Whose life haven't we feared for lately?

Of the current team members, Reid and Garcia were the only ones not involved in last year's car accident cliffhanger. Well, and Simmons, but he wasn't part of the team yet. So it could be one of those three.

But Reid did just have that prison arc last year and really Reid has been through so much they should just give him a bit of a break

It could be anyone, regardless if they were part of last year's cliffhanger.

The premiere focused on the team saving Prentiss who had been kidnapped by Scratch. And we just had Prentiss temporarily suspended and let go from unit chief, so maybe it won't be her since she just had some big-ish stories this season.

Since the cliffhanger would lead into the 300th episode, I can see it not being JJ who is in danger since she got the 200th episode.

It could be Rossi. Of the main team (the ones around the longest), he's probably had the least "torture". He's had some mental and emotional stuff, but compared to the others he hasn't had a lot.

Or heck, it could be another whole team cliffhanger

Wow, they're wrapping up the season and still no news on the renewal. I wonder what the hold up is. CBS usually does a March mass renewal for obvious shows and even that hasn't happened. I'm getting anxious.

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised CBS only has I think 2 confirmed renewals for next season. I know they have until Up Fronts in May, but usually they'll have a few renewed by April.

From Deadline (They were on the money last year):

Criminal Minds‘ renewal usually comes down to negotiations between CBS and ABC Studios that go down to the wire but have so far led to an agreement.

It also states that CBS will be renewing their shows on May.
