There are more important - and interesting - things out there. I enjoy a little romance now, but I didn't much care for it when I was younger.

Now I enjoy it if it's well written and accept it if it's not, but the rest of the things going on are interesting. But it's really not the first thing I look for. Which is why I rarely read romance novels.

Personally, the romance is what I find least believable in any piece of fiction. I think that whole 'love at first sight, felt a connection from the beginning' is just a load of steaming BS. You can think someone's so hot the air shimmers around them at first sight, you can even think they seem like a nice person, but that's about as far as I'm willing to believe.

I guess my notion of romance is not very romantic.

I just assumed when you said you didn't like romance, I thought traditional romance.

That's fair.

To me, while I can read a book without romance and while it may not be necessary, I feel romance compliments a series if done right. And what you said about love at first sight and stuff, yeah, it may not be realistic, but this is fiction, doesn't always have to be believable. And while love at first sight may not be the right term to use, I feel you can form a connection to someone/lust for/find attractive right away, especially under different circumstances.

Anyway, that's neither here nor there for this topic.

I didn't like romance of any kind. In fiction or otherwise.

Anyway, you're right. Back to topic.

I once heard someone say to someone else (who happened to read a lot) that they would rather shoot themselves in the leg than read that much.

Exactly There is always room, even if you don't have the bookshelf space. There is under the bed, in the closet, on the table, on the floor. In boxes.

Although there's such a thing as not enough space for books. I have books everywhere because I have nowhere to put them.

Nothing wrong with that also.

My TBR pile is on my new bookcase, the first top 2 shelves.
