Well, i guess we'll just have to wait and see... But personally i don't expect anything good except wonderful acting from Debra and Kurtwood they'll kill any material they will be given, i'm sure of it! But that's not enough for me personally. I highly dislike reboots whatsoever, cause during last few years it seems like original ideas don't exist anywhere. All people do is bringing back to life (and ruining) old shows

I won't be watching the show -- unless it disavows the events of season 8 as a delusion of some kind. An acknowledgment from T7S and T9S's creators during press for T9S that S8 was mishandled and a mistake would go a long way, as would an apology for it, quite frankly.

I highly doubt any of those things will happen (but one never knows). If they don't, without an explicit disavowal of S8 on the show (which can be done in subtle yet significant ways) and its creators, then T9S will continue from the canon-divergent S8. Silence about S8 will be as much confirmation as references to S8 that T9S treats S8 canon.

And if it does, then T9S isn't canon as far as I'm concerned. Which is a shame because I'd love to enjoy more Red and Kitty onscreen -- if they're written according to their S1-S4 characterization and not what they'd devolved into during the second half of T7S.

Yeah, I doubt that'll happen. But thankfully everyone can decide if they want to consume this new content or not, I'm sure there will be some viewers who get something out of it.

Yeah! Like the first episode opening with Kitty waking up, gasping, and telling Red she had the strangest dream about their lives from twenty years ago. But that won't happen. We'll get a scene of Red and Kitty in their living room or kitchen. If they know their granddaughter is staying with them for the summer, their conversation will revolve around that. If not, it'll establish other things about their lives; then they'll get a surprise when their granddaughter shows up at their door.

I'll be surprised if T9S's don't write a predictable scene like either those as the opener and come up with something, well, surprising.

I think a lot of casual T7S fans are going to enjoy T9S. They'll be happy to see Red and Kitty onscreen again. T7S isn't something they've analyzed infinitely (or much at all). It's just a show to watch. Season 8 to them is just season 8, not an abomination of character, story, and badly-written humor. They might have missed Eric's character in it and Kelso not being in the full season but that's about the extent of the complaint (from what I've witnessed over the years in other forums where people discuss T7S).

Someone on tumblr sent me an ask that brought up a good point: if Eric and Donna's daughter is going to be a teenager in 1995, she'd be thirteen at the youngest. But, more likely. she'll be a slightly older teenager than that. Regardless, this means Eric and Donna would've had their child in 1981 at the earliest. That's one year after season 8 takes place.

This is entirely OOC. Donna would never have a child that young. She and Eric would go to college first. Then they'd get established in their careers and become financially stable before having a child. So, staying true to Eric and Donna's characters, they'd have their child -- at the earliest -- in 1989 (if Donna got pregnant a few months into 1988).

That means Leia should be six-years-old, not a teenager.

The very premise of That '90s Show is built out of OOC-ness, on events that real!Donna and realEric would never allow to happen. T7S and T9S's creators are continuing to force the characters to fit their plot instead of letting the plot rise organically from the characters.

But a lot of people won't care the show's premise makes no sense. They'll watch and enjoy it regardless, and it's cool they can. But S8 didn't follow the trajectory set for the characters during S1-S7, and T9S clearly isn't going to, either. I would have to do too much mental gymnastics to watch this show (Point Place Time strikes again).

I do have my concerns about this show - the only one who posted anything, of the young cast, is the one that can't be in it, DM on his Insta.

It's great that Eric and Donna got married - but what happened between New Years 1980 and 1995 (I think that's the starting year)?

Wilmer is busy with NCIS, so I don't know if Fez will make an appearance.
Topher also has his show Home Economics, but you can't have a show about the Forman family without Eric.

I was disappointed with the whole season 8 fiasco and what they did to Jackie and Hyde, because of DM's real life, I always wondered if they are just going to pair Jackie with Kelso just because it's easy to do with Mila and Ashton being married? And to me recasting is very iffy, people want Mila and Danny, not Mila and fill in actor's name here.

I just don't want any dumb, lazy sitcom lines to describe Hyde's absence and any of the others that may not be available.

Although they had recast Laurie for a few episodes during the original show, will they bother?

And will they make Midge's death canon since Tanya Roberts recently passed away?

I am excited for the show, but I don't rule out the powers that be doing something stupid, because that's usually what happens in these situations.

People in the fandom aren't the only ones asking that question. An article from screenrant.com: That '90s Show Already Betrayed Donna's Character.

As for any of the original cast, besides the two stars of T9S (Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp) making guest appearances, totally possible for some of them to show -- even if they're currently in other series. People guest on shows other than their regular gig all the time. Joseph Gordon-Levitt guested as Buddy Morgan on T7S while he was on 3rd Rock from the Son, for example (but the two shows had the same production company, so that made scheduling easier).

Since they got happily together, this has been my fear for any kind of T7S reunion, reboot, continuation, etc. Granted, it would be a good in-the-moment marketing move for T9S, but it would be terrible for the universe of Point Place since Jackie and Kelso aren't MK and AK. Actors are not their roles and vice versa. Jackie and Kelso never would've gotten married, but fidelity to the characters stopped being a thing on T7S even before S8 (but S8 brought it to a whole different level). If T7S / T9S were a series of novels by the same author, it would have to be self-published because of its characters' internal cohesion falls apart a little more than halfway through. No literary agent would accept it.

I have little faith Hyde's character will be treated as Hyde. He wasn't in S8, and if T9S continues off of S8!Hyde's characterization ... well, he'll probably have died in a ditch, clutching a bottle of alcohol.

Actually, he probably won't. That would add an undercurrent of sadness and grief to T9S since Kitty and Red's love for Hyde wasn't ignored in S8, and I doubt it would be ignored in T9S. The kindest the show could do -- besides saying Hyde got his head out of ass, he and Jackie reconciled, and are happy together -- is not mention Hyde at all. Just another confirmation that T9S is an AU continuation of T7S.

I could also see why he wouldn't want to return to Fez -- unless it's the OOC womanizing playboy version in S8. But I'm sure T9S Fez would be yet another version of his character anyway (T7S has so many). So Fez in name only.
