I don't think Kelly was dumb. I think out of everyone else, she's the only one with a Masters Degree.

There is a difference between being academically intelligent and being wise - Kelly isn't wise at all. She doesn't think things through properly. I watched her through the 10 seasons and she has said some dumb things and made some dumb moves - not a wise person in my eyes. I would say Brandon is academically intelligent and wise

Yes she is definitely not street smart but there are other areas where I don't think she is wise.

Valerie seems to win their dual most times because she isn't naive....Val is the real deal

I think Kelly can be easily manipulated. To me, she is very vulnerable - even Brandon has said that. But I think she's matured her way into being a good mother and friend. I know that doesn't mean that she has street smart - but I do think she ended up with good qualities.

Well, I think everyone in the gang had their very dumb moments, Val and Brandon included. In the beginning, Kelly was presented as intelligent, just not into intellectual achievements. She was sort of a materialistic snob, and it's funny how about S5 it grew into sort of intellectual snobbery too (remember The Rollingstones concert when she was staying home to study while everyone else was freaking out?), once she decided she wanted to be percieved as smart too. She also refused to give Val her notes in that period, and gee, I wonder how she would have felt had eveyone refused to help her with studying after she missed classes due to cult, drugs, rehab etc. It's completely unbelievable she graduated at the same time as the others, leave alone got into Columbia.

And she got MA degree in the spin off, right? Not during the original run of the show?

I simply love how in S5 both traumatized girls listened to Finley's crap, and Kelly completely fell for it while Val did not buy it for a second

I think all characters have dumb moments but some have it more than others. It's a shame that the Anti Kelly Taylor thread is no longer in use

Val is street smart which is why she doesn't buy into Finlays nonsense.
Kelly is naive. The point is that you can be academically bright which doesn't relate to being smart in practical situations
