I think Brenda knew that Brandon and Kelly really liked each other and may have been surprised in why they didn't hook up earlier. I can't fault Kelly here because she wanted Brandon but it was Brandon being "scared" of having her as his GF due to Steve and Brenda - I thought he was being silly but then again I can see his point of view and maybe S1 Brandon-Kelly may have been not a good idea at the time. Which is why I've always been adamant about pairing them in S6 than S4 or 5. As mentioned in Brandrea thread it would have made much more sense to do it like this for Brandon:

Brandon and Andrea S1 to S3 (HS Romance)
Brandon and Lucinda (S4)
Brandon and Emily (S5 and bit of S6)
Brandon and Kelly (from S6 to the end)

This patterns seems much more logical with Brandon's character in these seasons. With Kelly maturing and learning from mistakes, it did make sense for them to be together in S6. I would have liked Kelly and Colin in S5 for their drug-infested relationship and Brandon was the one who helped her and starts developing his feelings for her from there

Why Emily in S5/S6?

Well, I feel Emily was the one that Brandon fell hard for initially and from that S4 San Francisco episode, it was clear they were in love so why not give them a shot for a season. I was thinking that Brandon begin to help Kelly for whatever it is in the middle of S5, realizes his true feelings for her and at the same time realize his feelings for Emily isn't as strong as he thinks...can you see where I'm going with this? At least he will not get conflicted between Emily and Kelly when he begins to make his move for Kelly in and around S6 (or maybe end of S5)

I do get it. But if Brandon realizes his feelings for Kelly in S5, do you really want to wait till S6 for them to hook up?

He needs to get over Emily properly before he goes with Kelly plus I want Emily to give Brandon a proper Fatal Attraction on him. I think Kelly will be more mature as time goes on and hopefully she'll be completely over Dylan as well - it does take time to heal on both sides...so give them a little space and get them rockin' in S6 with no interference whatsoever
