“Oh, did you actually look up from your book to notice?” Michael inquired, glancing over at her.

Jane smirked and put the book in her bag on the floor of the car. She then leaned over toward Michael and wrapped her arms around his midsection. She somewhat felt bad for having ignored him, but he hadn’t made much of an effort to converse with her. Nevertheless, now that they were parked, they would have more time to talk.

“So, why are we stopped, again?” she asked since she never got an answer the first time around.

He flipped on the radio and was slightly surprised that they could actually get a signal now. The country station was playing a newly released song by Merle Haggard, and Michael turned it up. It was a slow song, and it put him right in the mood.

Know I'll be wanting you again.
Always loving you, but never touching you,
Sometimes hurts me almost more than I can stand.

Jane sat up and resituated herself back in her seat. Michael leaned over to her and gently kissed her lips. When she showed no sign of retreating, he slid an arm around her waist as he leaned into her and kissed her more passionately. His free hand cupped her cheek as his tongue slowly entered her mouth. Jane was pinned between the door and Michael, and she tried to catch her breath. It had been a long time since they’d kissed like that, and she had forgotten how wonderful it was. She pulled her arms up from between her and Michael and placed them on the back of his neck. One stayed in place while the other ran its fingers through his hair.

Michael pulled away for a brief moment so that he could reposition himself. His legs had been resting on the stick shift, and it had not been particularly comfortable. He leaning back over toward Jane and was about to kiss her when the look on her face stopped him. “What’s wrong?” he asked, keeping the distance between them.
