Looks like it's all but a sure thing that Monica's leaving. I don't even know what to do with that. I don't know what the show is without her and I am the absolute worst with change (I struggled with season 3 after losing Shay). Idk what to make of this.

I know what you mean! I read that too....and it didn't say why she was leaving the show either

I think at this point we're just waiting for official confirmation. Idk what this means for me because I am so bad with change.

Tbh, I'm not surprised. With how horribly her character was written recently, I'd walk too in her position.

Derek Haas wrote the last episode. He seems to have great respect for her. Maybe when he wrote it, he figured something would be worked out and she would be coming back for season 7.

If she'd already decided to leave it's not really respectful to believe he'll change her mind, but regardless of whether she was leaving or not, that mess wasn't necessary in the slightest. They didn't even try and build the story up, she deserved so much better.

I'm just so angry about the way they went about it. It was such a waste of time. It doesn't even make any sense as an exit.

I’ll be honest I haven’t been able to watch the full finale yet, just haven’t had time but Dawson has always been equal parts selfish and selfless so it would make sense she would choose to do something selfless by going to help out a relief effort in a disaster area but be selfish in deciding to do it without considering her husband. My guess is this story will carry into season 6 but how will depend on whether MR returns for an episode or 2 as a guest star in season 7 or if the finale in season 6 is it.
For those upset by the change, don’t forget change offers opportunity and there is a lot of storyline opportunity here out of MR leaving. Firstly, Dawson dominated the storyline so her departure will give more screen time opportunity to other characters to expand their role. I suspect the storyline will most directly impact Casey and Brett. Casey of course because of the break down in their marriage and they could kill off Dawson off screen which creates even more drama for Casey. I suspect this will dominate Casey’s storyline throughout season 7. And with Brett they have the opportunity to pair Brett with someone who will allow her leadership as a paramedic to develop as well. This change also flips the Casey/Severide relationship dynamic. Severide has always been the perpetual bachelor and Casey with all the relationship drama. Now Severide has all the relationship drama with Kidd and Casey is single. There is more potential for Brettonio with Dawson gone. Antonio no longer has a direct link to 51 with Gabby gone, so developing Brettonio’s relationship reestablishes that. They will also be able to dedicate more storyline to Brettonio during Jon Seda’s crossovers as they don’t have to get him over for Gabby’s storyline. We also may see Kara cross to PD more with MR gone. On the cross over front to strengthen ties with PD now that the Dawson sibling relationship is gone we could see more Plouch. And there is obviously at least one new character on the way (paramedic) so there is an opportunity to bring someone on with ties to someone on Med. Like I said it’s sad to see Monica and her alter ego Dawson leave, but it may just breath new life into the show. |

She's never been so selfish that she would walk out on her marriage just like that, and Casey wouldn't lay down and let her anyway. It would be fine as a temporary exit but it doesn't work at all as a permanent one, and as the chances are they knew she was going, they should have done better. Bad writing is bad writing at the end of the day. They had the chance to do this story right and they chose not to.
