Gilmore Girls Continued? GG movie discussion thread #2

New thread for discussing a new Gilmore Girls Movie. We could use some art work!

How about if Rory is writing a human interest story on small towns and she uses the towns quirkiness as the backdrop. Maybe flashbacks, well naturally Lorelai and Luke's wild ride has to be included. She can bring it full circle to the present/future (however you want to look at it) with Lorelai and Luke and their middle. And how the rest of the town has gone on also. Lane and Zack and the twins. Sookie and her THREE kids. Kirk and lulu (not me) engaged or maybe married.

Thanks for the new thread Damsel.

Ha, that's funny, lulu. Not long ago I was hashing this over with a couple of friends, and I suggested a retrospective by Rory, maybe after the death of either Richard or Emily, some years into the future. She could document what happened in the years following the end of season 7.

lancer1993 03-26-2008 07:22 PM

I was just thinking "what about a flashback" type movie. Not the know this by maybe it Rory who is getting married (Jess, Logan, Kirk I really don't care) and Lorelai is looking back, maybe the first time she met Luke, or the First time at the Inn. Only problem is they can't go back too far 'cause no matter how good they look they are not 20 any more.

And thanks for the new thread Damsel.

Well they could go back as far as season one and use clips.

lancer1993 03-26-2008 08:00 PM

Problem with S1 is there is debate as to whether it was shot in HD or not and any new project would be in HDTV.

I was thinking since it was only about 3 years before the pilot when they met so no problem with the age thing. I know they used a stand in for Lorelai twice and neither looked like her so I'd say avoid an young flashbacks but their first meeting and other evens with Rory might be okay, but then they need someone to play a young Rory?

crazyboutscott 03-26-2008 09:24 PM

I like the idea of flashbacks....the story being told by Rory to maybe one of her own children??? Or the story being told by Luke & Lorelai to one of their children right before that child gets married??

damselfly 03-26-2008 09:29 PM

I don't think flashbacks need to go back to earlier seasons - it could be a story about what happened after the end of Season 7. If it's only 2 hours long, I wouldn't want it to be full of clips we've already seen.

crazyboutscott 03-26-2008 09:38 PM

Totally agree damselfly....I want to see what happened after the disaster that was season 7.

lancer1993 03-26-2008 09:53 PM

They could have a movie where Luke tells his 2 kids about how he met Lorelai, oh wait isn't there a TV show like that

razzlephrat 03-26-2008 09:53 PM

I just want to see the rest of the kiss (as in the camera not going away as soon as their lips touched.), how Lorelai deals with Rory being gone for real this time, not that crap they pulled with Yale, and of course the middle but realistically, I want to see the first two.

crazyboutscott 03-26-2008 09:55 PM

I really want to see the wedding, I can just see the look of pride on Luke's face as he marries the woman he has loved for so long...me...I mean Lorelai

Elissa5 03-26-2008 10:26 PM

I agree with you, Michelle, Luke and Lorelai's wedding needs to happen and we need to see it! It is fine if it happens in a flashback as long as we get a good amount of it shown!

And, Razzle, I'm with you too, I want to see the rest of the kiss. I also want to see what was said after that kiss!

I do agree with you, Damsel, that we don't have to rehash earlier seasons. They can just start from where things were left after Season 7!

And I definitely agree with you, Lancer, the actors they picked to play the younger characters looked nothing like the current actor, therefore ruining the episode and the story for me!

The girl that played Lorelai looked like the girl from Providence, I think. Was it her??

Elissa5 03-26-2008 10:51 PM

It definitely wasn't one of the main characters from "Providence." Nor was it the girl who played the younger version of Sydney. On "Providence," I think they did a good job choosing an actress to play the young Sydney. The girl had the same coloring and similar characteristics of Melina Kanakaredes.

On GG, they were never good with matching up younger characters. I thought they did a great job pairing LG and AB as mother and daughter. That was very believable, especially when you add Christopher to the mix. AB has very similar coloring to Christopher, and I thought they could easily be father and daughter!

damselfly 03-27-2008 09:47 AM

lol, I think we can all agree we want to see the wedding, but I'm taking a stand and saying it'll never happen. If I was a gambling gal, I'd put money on that.

I always thought Rory looked a lot like Emily, because their faces are a similar shape. I think the Lorelai/Rory/Richard/Emily casting was a good mix - Lorelai is tall like Richard and has his narrow face, while Rory is a little shorter like Emily, with the heart shaped face.

And yes - horrible casting of young Lorelai and young Christopher. Ugh.

Elissa5 03-27-2008 10:00 AM

Damsel - As much as I love Kelly Bishop playing Emily, I don't see any physical similarity to her and Lorelai. I will have to look at the similarity between Emily and Rory. It probably works if it is something I didn't notice.

Plus, with Edward Herrmann, besides being tall, he has blue eyes, so the girls could have easily gotten the eye coloring from him. :)

I respect your opinion, Damsel, about there not being a wedding in the GG return, whatever form it comes in, but I have to say that I disagree. I would put money that we some aspect of L&L's wedding! Maybe not every cent I ever earned, but maybe as much as I would put on a night of playing roulette or a good game of 21. ;) Of course, if I went to MIT, the 21 game would be a cinch! But I didn't.

damselfly 03-27-2008 10:16 AM

I'll be happily wrong if there is a wedding Elissa. :)

I don't see any of Emily in Lorelai - the physical similarity was between Emily and Rory, in the shape of the face.

Other than blue eyes, I never thought Rory looked much like Lorelai, and her face isn't shaped like Christopher's either - then I noticed the AB/KB and LG/EH similarities in a screen cap one day.

Elissa5 03-27-2008 10:23 AM

Hmm. I have been amazed how similar David Sutcliffe and AB look. The Rory-Emily thing never stood out at me. But I definitely agree about the LG-EH connection.

Did you all know that EH's own daughter was on GG for one brief scene?

damselfly 03-27-2008 10:35 AM

It's funny how we all see things differently.

EH's daughter was one of Honor's bridesmaids in Bridesmaids Revisited I think.

Wheredidtheanvilsgo? 03-27-2008 10:53 AM

I think the idea of Rory thinking back upon the last couple of years (maybe longer) would be a perfect way to incorporate the whole story, cater to AB's possible demands of less participation and have it wrap up perfectly.. Makes me smile.. It could provide the fans with a lot of the stuff they want. Not a wedding but flashes of a wedding, not the whole pregnancy but flashes of it... etc. I like that idea.

Elissa5 03-27-2008 10:53 AM

I didn't know EH's daughter was one of Honor's bridesmaids. I also think she was one of the girls at Chilton who videotaped their senior message while Paris and Rory were waiting in line discussing how Rory was just name valedictorian.

lancer1993 03-27-2008 02:40 PM

I'm not sure if I need to see a wedding, not in full. If it's a couple of years I'd rather think they were married within a year of the final and have been together all this time. I'd love some mention and flashbacks and pictures on the fire place and walls. maybe they could have a scene with Luke and Lorelai sitting on the couch watching the wedding in HD ('cause Emily paid for it to be videod by a pro) on the LCD Chris put up, just to rub it in. Oh and Luke has mad a cabinet for the TV so it's not always on show, Maybe it pops up when needed?

I thought that was Liza Weil's sister... :look:

lulu1960 03-27-2008 03:03 PM

I think EH's daughter played the wedding planner girl that kept everyone on time. I think I read that somewhere.
