I saved the exec's official information on season 4 from the dtv message boards. You know the thread if you were a fan then.

Shooting starts April 26

------------------------------------------------------------

EXEC's Posts

3/25/2004 - 401/402 that we were reading, and there are some great moments in
it. Lauren, Shane, Adamo, Aubrey, Melissa, Andrea and Pat M. were able to make
it there...

4/24/2004 - Shooting our first scene on 4/26 (which is actually scene #22 in the
script) by about 8:15am. It will feature Ashley and Craig, and Ellie will be
in it as well, along with Coach Armstrong and Mr. Raditch.

4/26/2004 - The first scene went great, and I was just outside where we were
rehearsing the car crash. We used two beat-up cars for the rehearsal, and they
crashed really well! It's great to be back!

4/27/2004 - Wait till you see everyone's hair styles this year. I think they
all are looking GREAT!!

4/28/2004 - Tomorrow we shoot the car crash, can't wait to see the rushes!! OK
here's a bit of a spoiler hint: Yes there will be one or two new characters;
but also there is a character who will not be returning this season...

5/3/2004 - Miriam looks terrific this year, probably the most changed of all
the cast. Part of it is her braces are gone, but mostly she has grown taller
and wears her hair differently...

5/5/2004 - And right now the final shots of 401/402 are happening on our
backlot. Hard to believe that we've almost shot two episodes of Season 4!! The
last scene we shoot (of course we shoot out of order) will feature Spinner and
Paige...

5/7/2004 - To answer a question, the car crash turned out great... a bit sad
though, we had to crash a quite beautiful yellow 1976 Corvette!

5/7/2004 - Oh, and I just checked out a scene which was cut together from
yesterdays rushes featuring JT. It is undoubtedly the funniest scene of all
time on Degrassi, I was rolling with laughter!!

5/11/2004 - Just watched an edit of a good scene with Emma, Paige and Rick and
some others at The Dot; meanwhile on the monitor I can see a scene featuring
Paige and Marco bumping into Alex in the school corridors...

5/11/2004 - Terri will not be back this season, at least not as a regular, her
father is insisting she go to a private school to get her away from Rick...

5/14/2004 - This year the post production of both Degrassi and Instant Star
will be in High Definition, so we've been having a lot of discussion about
different lenses, different lighting etc. so you might notice a difference--
watching on a normal channel like CTV or Noggin there won't be TOO much of a
difference, should be a tiny bit sharper, but if you watch in Canada on Rogers
digital cable, or the High Definition Channel of Bell Expressvu, then Season 4
will look amazing!!

5/17/2004 - CTV News Release - "Degrassi" Gets International Nods as
Production Begins on Season Four
For Immediate Release - May 17, 2004

Degrassi: The Next Generation Named Best Family Television Series in U.S. as
Show Begins Production on Season Four
- 22 new half-hour episodes now in production in Toronto -

Toronto, Ontario (May 17, 2004) - CTV's prime time drama, Degrassi: The Next
Generation was named Best Family Television Series (Comedy or Drama) at the
Young Artist Awards in L.A. on Sunday, beating out six U.S. competitors:
American Dreams, The Bernie Mac Show, Joan of Arcadia, Life with Bonnie, The
Simpsons and Two and a Half Men. It is the second international nod in as many
weeks for the series, which was named a finalist in the race for Best
Children's Television Programme at the upcoming 2004 Prix Jeunesse
International TV Festival. The series' companion site, Degrassi.tv | Degrassi.tv, is
also being recognized at this festival as a finalist in the 2004 Prix Jeunesse
Web prize category.

These latest awards come just as Epitome Pictures begins principal photography
on Season Four, featuring 22 new half-hour episodes. Last season, the series
was Canada's most-watched Canadian drama (Adults 18-49 and Teens 12-17;
Source: BBM). Shooting of the fourth season is scheduled to run through
November.

"We're delighted that Degrassi: The Next Generation is back for a fourth
season thanks in large part to its growing legion of fans, both young and
old," said Linda Schuyler, President, Epitome Pictures Inc. "We're embarking
on our most ambitious season ever as our characters confront the increasingly
intense twists and turns of high-school life."

Returning cast regulars are Sarah Barrable-Tishauer as Liberty; John Bregar as
Dylan; Deanna Casaluce as Alex; Daniel Clark as Sean; Lauren Collins as Paige;
Ryan Cooley as JT; Ephraim Ellis as Rick; Jake Epstein as Craig; Stacey Farber
as Ellie; Jake Goldsbie as Toby; Aubrey Graham as Jimmy; Shane Kippel as
Spinner; Andrea Lewis as Hazel; Mike Lobel as Jay; Miriam McDonald as Emma;

and Cassie Steele as Manny.

Returning Classic Cast members are Stefan Brogren as Archie "Snake" Simpson;
Pat Mastroianni as Joey Jeremiah; Stacie Mistysyn as Joey's high-school flame,
Caitlin Ryan; and Amanda Stepto as Snake's missus, Christine "Spike" Nelson.

Season Four begins with a new school year and Paige is anxious about her
pending rape case - a situation that will put her face to face with her
rapist. Meanwhile, family ties are put to the test when Craig receives an
unexpected birthday present from his late father.

Always prepared to tackle tough issues in a realistic way - a key element in
the broadening of the audience age range - this season's Degrassi will deal
with topics including sexuality, mental illness, self-esteem and violence.

5/21/2004 - I was in Ottawa yesterday, so I missed the scene where someone's
place goes up in fire, but apparently it worked out great! Just now watching on the monitor as Ellie does a scene with a pet ferret!!!

5/26/2004 - We're still shooting episodes 405 and 406, but then we will go right into 407/408. I won't say very much about those episodes except that they are major episodes. Very major episodes!

6/09/2004 - We had a VERY intense day of shooting at Degrassi today, which we
can't talk about but it will probably be on everyone's top ten Degrassi
moments!

6/16/2004 - I was in Banff for a few days at a television conference, and also
we have been very busy wrapping the shooting of 407 and 408 (episodes I won't
even hint about they are so important.

And just before leaving for Banff I was in the recording studio with a great
record producer David Ogilvie who has produced a remixed version of the
Degrassi theme song that has a new variation on the melody, there is no choir,
it is a single voice, and with distorted guitars--sounds very cool. We have to
produce a slightly different version of the opening to Degrassi this year,
partly because Terri is not in the show this season, but also because we are
completing Degrassi for the first time in high definition format--so we have
to re-process the opening sequence so that it is in high definition as well...

6/25/2004 - ...starting Tuesday we are back to Degrassi, 409 and 410.

AND just saw a rough assembly of Degrassi 407/408. It is the most moving
Degrassi story of all time.

6/26/2004 - Tuesday when we start shooting Degrassi again we're on location
and we do the beach scene with Sean and the jet-ski gone awry!

6/30/2004 - Today we're on our final day of location shooting for a while.
Yesterday the jet ski incident went perfectly, and today we are in
the "trailer park" where Sean's parents live (playing it to be Wasaga Beach,
although we're not really in Wasaga Beach--which is in cottage country north
about 90 minutes north of Toronto--but we are shooting near a beach!!)

7/01/2004 - 409 has a lot to do with the aftermath of 407/408....

7/06/2004 - I just got back from Vancouver, and paid a visit to set this
morning and there was a bunch of the cast there but the scene they were
shooting focussed on Liberty--at the end of the take instead of saying what
they were supposed to say the cast burst into singing "Happy Birthday" to
Sarah!

7/11/2004 - I'm pretty sure that Jake Epstein will be in the building, because
he plays a key role in 411/412, but he may be too tied up filming to do the
chat this time.
p.s. Tomorrow is the final day shooting Episodes 409 and 410, and we get to
use the outdoor hot tub for the second time (I think the first time was in
404!!)

7/18/2004 - ...And yes, Miriam has her braces off, and yes Caitlin WILL be
back this season...
We're continuing to shoot episodes 411/412 of Degrassi

7/25/2004 - It was funny on Friday-- we were having a read-through of 413 and
416 (for various scheduling reasons we are shooting those two episodes
together before we shoot 414/415) and before the read-through got underway we
were talking about how successful the mall tours are being so far. Sarah was
there with her luggage because she was going directly from the read-through to
the airport, so Ryan and the rest of the cast were ribbing her that maybe this
good thing wouldn't last and maybe no-one would show up at her mall tour, and
that she shouldn't feel TOO bad if no-one did--it was quite funny! Then
yesterday night we got a call from our Associate Producer Nicole Hamilton who
went with Sarah and Danny to Texas--and it sounds like this was one of the
most successful mall events yet, so Sarah will be very happy--and can be part
of ribbing the next two actors who head off!!!!

8/08/2004 - Yes there is going to be a new character named Danny... he is very
funny and he is Liberty's brother--he gets JT into some trouble!!
Since we're on hiatus I'll have a bit more time to give a few hints about
Season 4 this week.

8/09/2004 - Now, let's see what can I tell you today, ok in 405 there is a
carwash scene with a lot of the cast washing cars to raise money for the
Spirit Squad uniforms, and the Downtown Sasquatch plays a song there, and lots
of spraying each other with water and hoses, very fun!! But with Paige sick,
what is Spinner up to???

8/09/2004 - We are trying in every episode to mention Heather Sinclair one way
or another! But will we ever show her, or even part of her?????
And Kid Elrick is mentioned a lot too.....

8/16/2004 - Was just music-spotting the scene in 409 where Emma and Ellie and
Sean and Jay are together at Wasaga Beach--some good stuff there--a bit
emotional too!!

8/17/2004 - Hmmmm... so some of you think that Emma wouldn't ever be with Jay
for more than a minute??? Well, well, well. Interesting.

8/17/2004 - And sorry SullyFan I'm afraid you'll be disappointed this year...
Sully was never part of the main cast and won't be playing any big part in
Season 4...

8/18/2004 - Now, the writers have complained to me that my hints about this
season are giving away far too much and so spoiling the season. So I won't be
giving any more comments on the Season 4 stories, sorry.

I remember that thread.

Just reading the first handful of posts and the bit about the different hairstyles and Miriam being the one who changed the most made me laugh.

I think I remember seeing other parallels like that about Time Stands Still. But it has been so long since I have watched the episodes, honestly.

I don't think I ever noticed before, but season 3 & 4 use a different shot in the opening theme for JT.
I mean it was obvious that they "cropped" Terri out of that segment,
but not that they also used a different take altogether.

Honestly the opening posts amaze me a bit, not sure why everyone loved this season lol. Personally I wasn't a fan and so far, its my least favorite. I even preferred season 1 to season 4...

so for me it goes:

Season 3
Season 2
Season 1
Season 4

Right off the bat I will give my character ranking after this season

1. Ellie
2. Manny
3. Emma
4. Alex
5. Marco
6. Paige
7. JT
8. Jay
9. Sean
10. Spinner

Not much change from last season for me.

My favorite is still Ellie who seems the most level headed and i liked that she moved back home and is giving her mom another chance (even though her mom is horrid). Also Manny, who is always fun. Emma i llke too but it felt she really wasn't given much this season. I also liked seeing more of Alex and her friendship with Paige was cute. Paige continues to be a strong character. The females basically rule the series for me lol.

Marco wasnt uber exciting but I still like him. Cant stand him with Dylan though and he deserves better. Not much Liberty this season. Her and JT are fine as a couple but idk, I dont feel any sparks there. JT in general was a bit whiney this season.

No explanation for where the heck Terri went, which was very odd to me. They could have at least explained it.

Spinner and Jay were huge jerks the whoel season BUT I still find them really enjoyable as characters. I liked their storylines the most this season. Still like Sean but he didnt really have much to do and ended up leaving half way through?

Jimmy was a great character this season and I did enjoy the shooting storyline, even if they could have gone deeper into it. It really sucked that Jimmy got shot because of what Spinner and JT said! How horrible. And then being paralyzed...jeez. But it felt like after that happened he really didnt have much to do. Neither did Hazel.

Craig's bipolar storyline was interesting but tough to watch. I really enjoyed the friendship that sort of seemed to form between Ellie and Craig. Not a big fan of Ashley in general or Ashley/Craig getting back together.

Tobey, still boring. Darcy was an okay addition to this season but didnt do much. Chris turned into a jerk. Danny was kinda funny in small portions. Dylan sucked. Mr O Sucked (and that whole storyline which really had no decent message?) and looks like Kendra is gone too?

The final episodes of the season imo were some of the worst episodes with Kevin! Like wtf. Super boring! And then having Caitlin cheat? Yuck. No. I dont care much for the adults in general and will be glad when they arent really shown much lol.

Okay, as far as couples I haven't mentioned yet...

Even though the SL with jay was super gross, I kinda liked the jay/emma thing. I thought they had good chemistry and it was nice seeing emma not be so perfect. The storyline was fun to watch.

Def. already shipping Paige and Alex lol. Glad Spinner and Paige broke up. Never cared for them. Also want Criag/Ellie to happen even though Craig still bores me. SO yea, those are the three I was most interested in in season 4.

Spinner/Manny felt SO RANDOM and didnt even go anywhere? Are Ellie/Sean still a thing?

Thanks for your posts Alexa. Gets me thinking about the episodes, in the way we used to.

Re: Spinner/Manny: I don't think they feel that random. They had that hot moment of attraction at the car wash. What else do you need as a teenager? I think they had fun dates. Goofy...and sexy.

Now, some Manny dissection. I love her relationships with JT and Spinner back to back. She is completely different in both. With JT she wants no physical contact and with Spinner that is more of what she's into. with pda. "We’re having fun right? So why do we have to go and make it all official? " she asks in Bark at the Moon (an underrated episode). She can't figure out how she wants to or should be treated (Craig baggage). She doesn't know what guys want from her. She's scared. I don't think she was comfortable in either relationship, which was why it was easy for her to walk away from Spinner. Interesting because she was afraid he wouldn't be there and he was. But she couldn't be there for him. She's quite the beautiful mess. I didn't see it before. I love her now!

I kinda want to rank the season 4 episodes. I don't know if I did that yet, or if that was a thing? I really love season 4, to the best of my memory. Didn't like the Paige/Mr. O relationship. Now that was random!

Regarding Terri, on the old Degrassi.TV website each character had an individual journal which they called "Lockers." Paige's locker made mention of Terri's father putting her into an all girls private school. That was never mentioned on the show, which is a shame as that could have been accomplished in a two second throwaway.

Yeah, if you're not a Craig fan this is not the season for you.

I think in general the group we know was pretty hypocritical in their reaction to Spin after they found out about the prank. And I still have to mention that the character who did the actual prank never got punished.

I was looking at the original post and noticed a typo and even though this thread is over 12-years old I'm having to fight from editing that post and fixing that typo.

And speaking of stuff from 2009.....
