Yeah, I think it might have been more so that he liked Zoe so much for his son that he loved having some sort of friendship/relationship with his future mother in law.

Yeah, exactly. I truly think it wasn't until Wade talked to Candice that he loved Zoe and he was going to fight for them that she truly accepted Wade. Because initially when he showed up at her door in NY she more or less turned him away.
