I definitely agree that Emma will be a villian in an AU. I don't think she's the new Dark One. And I hadn't thought about the Chernabog returning, but it's definitely possible.

I wonder if the Chernabog is really an "evil" character though.

I think he is more of a weapon than a being who can make his own decisions, but still. His mission seems to be to destroy characters with the greatest potential darkness. He was also guarding the Dark Curse so that other villains couldn't steal and use it.

He might be an agent of the Sorcerer meant to keep a balance.

I remember the press release described Chernabog as the true nature of evil so I was kind of expecting more to the story...

I want to say this in a way I don't offend any pairing but it seems to me the only ones saying emma is the new DO is so that rumple can logically go back to belle that somehow we can blame everything on the dark curse but from everything we know about the dark curse in the last four seasons it doesn't seem possible that rumple would live if he is no longer the DO. As for Jen's comments since it seems she will also play a villian in the AU I get her comment but that has nothing to do with being DO

I mean if the Chernabog is the "true nature of evil" why does it go around trying kill characters with the greatest potential for darkness? That seems kind of counterproductive.

Did they actually say that in the episode? I've found the press releases to sometimes be misleading because they are written by the ABC marketing department not the show's writers.

I see what you're saying ... I actually have said before that I thought Rumple "breaking" the Dark Curse was a possibility this season but I don't know how that will affect Belle ... Since Robert didn't film in the last two days it seems like Rumple isn't back in Storybrooke ...

Emma and Regina are forced to confront the true nature of evil. No, they didn't say it in the episode but this was the wording in the press release.

Hmmm...maybe by "true nature of evil" it was referring to that fact that Emma was revealed to have the greatest potential darkness and not Regina as most would predict.

The Chernabog seems very one dimensional and blindly goes about his purpose. It would be pretty boring if he was revealed as the true nature of evil.

I see plenty of CS shippers also sharing the theory that Emma might become the DO on this thread and elsewhere.

I'm a Rumbelle shipper and I don't think Emma has become the DO because the dagger didn't disappear with her. It's an opinion I've shared a lot on this thread and I think I was actually the first one to point that out on the spoiler thread. But I do think the curse has changed and Rumple no longer has it because the dagger was trying to attach itself to someone else. Whether this was all part of Rumple's nefarious plan that might be. But the Author has revealed himself to be pretty villainous and then of course there's Zelena who hates both Regina and Rumple.

Also it's not fair of you to generalize the opinions of a ship or try to argue that some of us who like a certain character are blinding ourselves to other theories. You tend to do that a lot and frankly it isn't true.

I wonder ... has anyone considered the possibility that Regina somehow broke the Dark One curse? The set reports made it seem like the "darkness" was attacking Regina until Emma steps up and sacrifices herself ...

If the Dark One curse has to find a place to transfer itself could it be going after Regina for a reason? She was the one who told Belle that TLK could break the curse. Maybe if the do an AU and the curse breaks?

You bring up a good point though. It's very weird that the dagger is trying to attach itself to Regina. Emma is holding the dagger and she has the greatest potential evil.

I agree there has to be a good reason for it.
