Sophies

In Episode 5.03, Written in the Stars, Logan tells Rory that she should call him "Master and Commander."

Master and Commander is the first of Patrick O'Brian's novels about Jack Aubrey. Sophie is the square-rigged ship that Aubrey is Master and Commander of, and those who crew in her refer to themselves as Sophies. It is the ship where Jack Aubrey first makes his name.

So, it is in this spirit that those who ship the Master and Commander and His Lady are known as: Sophies.

Episode 7.12 - To Whom It May Concern

The CW: GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS - Noticing Sookie's recent odd behavior, Lorelai forces Jackson to tell her the reason. Luke and Anna attend a hearing to decide their custody battle over April. With help from Paris, Rory finally makes amends with Lucy, who tells her that she and Marty have broken up. While attending Richard's economics class at Yale, Rory witnesses a frightening scene. Finally, Christopher finds the letter Lorelai wrote for Luke's character reference and confronts Lorelai about whether he was her second choice.

TV Guide.com: Rory returns to Yale after winter break and leaves Lucy a note apologizing for her deception, while Paris ambushes Rory with her master plan of things they need to accomplish in their last semester. Meanwhile, Luke and Anna appear before a judge in the custody case; Sookie asks Lorelai to babysit so she and Jackson can go skiing, but Sookie's behavior is mysteriously erratic; and Christopher makes a discovery that leaves him shaken. Episode 7.13 - I'd Rather Be In Philadelphia

"I'd Rather Be In Philadelphia"-- (R-L) Logan (Matt Czuchry) borrows a helicopter to get to the hospital, and he and Rory (Alexis Bledel) collect some of Richard's favorite personal items for his hospital stay in GILMORE GIRLS on The CW. Courtesy of curlyhead.

RICHARD IS HOSPITALIZED — In the hospital waiting room, Lorelai (Lauren Graham), Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Emily (Kelly Bishop) anxiously await word on Richard’s (Edward Herrmann) condition. When Logan (Matt Czuchry) hears what is happening, he borrows a helicopter to be by Rory’s side, but Lorelai is unable to reach Christopher (David Sutcliffe), who is still angry over their fight the night before. Upset by Emily’s attempt to remain calm by dealing with her social calendar, Lorelai is relieved when Luke (Scott Patterson) shows up unannounced and volunteers to run errands for Emily. Christopher finally arrives to be with Lorelai, but the scene at the hospital is more than he can take. Lee Shallat Chemel directed the episode written by Rebecca Rand Kirshner (#2T7763).

From empressdrew on TWOP (12/8): I work in the South Bay in California and saw a film set sign that read "Gilmore" on my way to work. Of course I followed the sign and ended up seeing all kinds of Warner Bros. trucks and crew people busy filming at an abandoned hospital.



Episode 7.14 - Farewell, My Pet

LORELAI AND CHRISTOPHER CONFRONT THEIR PROBLEMS - Two days after his by-pass surgery, Richard (Edward Herrmann) is on the road to recovery, and Rory (Alexis Bledel) returns to Yale, where she finds that Richard's economics class is now being taught by an attractive young professor, Tucker Culbertson (guest star Cameron Bender), who flusters Rory with his charm. While Lorelai (Lauren Graham) tries to distract herself from the issues in her marriage, she and Sookie (Melissa McCarthy) focus on planning a funeral for one of Michel's (Yanic Truesdale) beloved dogs. Finally, Christopher (David Sutcliffe) returns ready to talk, and he and Lorelai discuss the main problem that has haunted their marriage - Lorelai's feelings for Luke (Scott Patterson. Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena, Liza Weil and Matt Czuchry also star. Jamie Babbit directed the episode written by Jennie Snyder

While Richard recuperates from surgery, a new professor (Cameron Bender) takes his place and steals Rory's heart with his charming ways. Meanwhile, Lorelai finds ways to avoid facing her problems with Christopher, including planning a funeral for one of Michel's departed dogs. But Christopher returns home and they discuss Lorelai's feelings for Luke.

Watch with Kristin: Alexis about Matt: "It's really fun working with him, I mean it definitely is, because he's always very engaged, he's always in character, and it kinda motivates me. Because, like, I'm on the show every day, and when he comes in, he brings this fresh new energy and its kinda nice to work with him. Kristin in E!Online interviews Matt Czuchry: He thinks that Rory and Logan's storyline would resonate with young adults because it highlights the tension of Logan taking on his family responsibilities, and Rory finding out what she wants for herself professionally. He thinks Rory should remain single if this were the last season [in reaction to Kristin's comment about a "big Rory and Logan wedding"].

Alan Sepinwall of The Star Ledger chats with DR at the CW party: "The first part of the season is (Logan and Rory) trying to deal with a long-distance relationship. Something will come and change that."

Maureen Ryan of The Chicago Tribune quotes Dave Rosenthal: "We have the benefit of seeing the future and knowing where we want to take them. So while something may be disturbing in the short run, or upsetting or confusing to a fan, we as the writers recognize that, yes, that’s upsetting but ultimately that's the journey that this character has to go on, they're required to do this or that...ultimately we're interested in personal growth. Obviously if characters never went through difficult times or never suffered, or had to face obstacles it would be hard for them to grow."

Regarding my name: Sandra is very common in Central Europe as well, but then, we we have lots of first names derived from Greek, Latin, and Hebrew.
My user name is the name of one of my favourite characters in a German TV series.

The more I think about what happens in 7.13, the more unreasonable seems what happens in 7.14. However, if the "crush" is only supposed to last for one episode, it can't be anything serious.

P.S.: Bava, I'm from Lower Saxony.

The last ep. description no only shows what a great boyfriend Logan is and how much he cares about Rory, but also what a great heart he has. This is a guy who was raised in a cold family: his own mother chose to check herself in a spa while his was unconscious in a hospital bed and it took a rude phonecall from his girlfriend to his father show up to see him.

If it's true that every person is a result of her/his environment and also of what she/he carries inside her/his heart, I would say that Logan being so caring says a lot about his heart.

DSR wrote SCPP and he's the showrunner now, which makes me think that he wants people to know that Logan is very a special guy. That makes kinda optimistic about where he is going with RL.

I hadn't thought of that, but it's a really good point. If DR put that much thought into it, it does seem like he's showing Logan as the anti-Mitchum and as someone who has overcome the coldness of his upbringing to be a warm and loving human being.

He has always been portrayed as very giving, very generous, and open to sharing ... except when it comes to sharing Rory. (Uh oh.)
