Episode 7.11: Santa's Secret Stuff

LORELAI MAKES CHRISTMAS WAIT FOR RORY'S RETURN -- Rather than celebrating Christmas while Rory (Alexis Bledel) is in London over the holidays, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Christopher (David Sutcliffe) decide to put their holidays on hold. Once Rory returns to Stars Hollow, they decorate several Christmas trees, do their shopping and even bake Christmas cookies for the first time as a family. Turning up unexpectedly at the inn, Luke (Scott Patterson) asks Lorelai to write a character recommendation letter for his custody battle over April (Vanessa Marano). Lorelai struggles to write the letter until she and Rory run into Luke and April at the mall and Lorelai suddenly remembers how important Luke has always been in Rory's life. Inspired, Lorelai writes the letter and mails it to Luke's attorney. Rory decides she will write an apology letter to her friend Lucy (Krysten Ritter), explaining why she and Marty kept their past friendship a secret.

Rory (Alexis Bledel) returns from London after the holidays. Lorela (Lauren Graham) is disappointed that Rory celebrated Christmas in London with Logan, but decides to have a "Christmas after Christmas" celebration as a new family complete with trees, decorations and shopping. In a weird way I agree with all of this even though there're two different viewpoints going on.

I agree that Lorelai needs to do all the heavy lifting if (when) L/L pair up again, but I think it would be pretty presumptuous of her if she actively pursued Luke after the events of the past 9 months. She’d need an ego the size of Texas to believe he was still open to a relationship. I’d like DR to show her working on her friendship with Luke, expecting nothing more, but then at some point we’d see her break down and tell him she can’t do it any more. She doesn’t want to be his friend. She wants him in her kitchen, his boots at her door, his shirts in her closet, his stupid stripey toothpaste in the bathroom, his DNA in her kid’s genes, his grumpy face besides her pillow every night. And she knows she messed up but she can’t turn her feelings off and she can’t not want to be with him. How they’d get Luke to believe she’s done being crazy and impulsive is another thing altogether. Plus Luke needs to have some sort of awareness of his part in the whole disaster. Don’t really know how they’d make any of this convincing. I sense a lot will be swept under the rug if this is the last season.

And that spec sounds pretty mushy when I actually write it down. Please accept my apologies .

I'm going to be humming that Na na nah na bit in my sleep I think.

I really just want to see Lorelai coming to work on their friendship again. That's not to say I don't want them as a couple again, I do. But right now the biggest element missing is the friendship. If they can get that worked out, then they can fix anything after that. They both need to remember what each other meant to one another. We know Lorelai does with her letter and epiphany. We don't know when Luke remembers/realizes. Something has to initiate that feeling again for him as well. And the only way that can happen is if Lorelai proves her devotion to him. At first simply as a friend. She's done it slowly by being there at the hospital and now with writing the letter. It could be that LL are realizing the same things at the same time through the same motions. They could very well be on the same page and not know it. Hopefully they are evolving at the same time and their reconciliation won't be far off.

If this doesn't make any sense, I apologize. My head is still one major foggy mess.

Can't believe I missed all the celebrating. Hope it's just the beginning.

I'm glad Lorelai breaks it off without any direct connection to Luke, though those feelings have never left her, they can't just be dismissed.

But, when it comes to her family, she has no doubts, just like she severed ties with Jason the minute she understood he was going after her father, even if she hated what her father had done to Jason.
I guess the fact that Chris won't be there for her and her family in time of need, will be the last straw.

Pssst, I also miss Bootie.

Yeah, I'm curious what it will be. It's hard to know what Dean really meant from what he said. I mean, he's an entertainment journalist so he's all about the spin. lol.
