i loved this movie! they had to have a lot of water, that was the whole theme with samara and evelyn. she was scared of water because of what evelyn did to her as a baby and what evelyn believed.
the deers freaked me out! when i'm at college and at home, espacially at home, i'm basically living in the middle of nowhere so if any deer came out, i was gonna be terrified and looking around for samara. i love that line, everyone loves it! i'm not your ****ing mommy! also who wanted to hurt that psychiatrist that thought that rachel was hurting aidan? i know it looked bad but i got so pissed at that character and didn't even really care when samara basically made her kill herself. |

I thought Evelyn had only been attempting to do what Rachel did in the end by drowning her child to get the evil thing out. So I kind of figured that had Evelyn been successful then Samara would have been ok, free from the evil presence. That's what I want to believe anyway, because I need an explantion for why Samara is so evil! Love your Snape av! |

oh yes i forgot about that part. then samara probably was a normal baby until an evil spirit came into her and took her away and made her this evil horrible scary samara that the morgans adopted.

THIS! My thoughts exactly. I thought Ringu was bland and not scary. Plus, unlike the American remake, the husband/baby daddy in Ringu wasn't sympathetic. Loved EVERYTHING about The Ring (2002). They cast Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson and David Dorfman perfectly as the central family. Also, Gore Verbinski's clever use of blue-tinted visuals is something I found really effective and creepy. __________________

Most are quick to judge American remakes as not as good as the original, but that's why I try to always reserve judgment on something until I've seen it. Because there are remakes that I like more than the originals. Ringu is one of them, the original is 'hokey' and just flat, although the idea intriguing. Much prefer the American version.

^ Totally agree. On the whole, I'm a HUGE fan of Original versions, and nobody does Supernatural Horror quite like the Japanese do it. Also, I loved the Korean Oldboy and loathed the American Oldboy. In this case, however, I thought Gore Verbinski captured something in the cinematography and the direction of performances that made The Ring something truly unique and terrifying. I was very surprised that the Director of Pirates of The Caribbean Series could do two extremely different genres so well!

Have to agree 100% on , "nobody does supernatural horror like the Japanese", but at the same time, I dislike the ones who disregard the remakes a whole, without giving them a chance.
