Yeah, it seems it's the US that's the only different one as I'm Canadian and we had the same as the British/UK version.

Thanks for the video too!

I did a re-watch of all the films last week, and I watched the American version for the first time apparently (I normally watch my DVDs, but I was abroad so I watched one online) - I was so surprised when Hermione said Sorcerer stone when they read, and that the book even read Sorcerer! I first thought they had just done a voiceover, but no, they actually changed the book frames as well - seems like a whole lot of work for something so small, but I'm not American. So I don't know how weird it would have been for you if they had just used Philosopher?

What I don't understand is why it was changed at all.

this basically explains it

https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5...b05c37bb78466e

personally for me when I hear sorcerer I automatically think of magic whereas philosopher not so much (I think of philosophy)

I also am not familiar with the real legend it's based on

also the first edition cover of the book here has Harry flying on a broomstick whereas the UK version doesn't

haha that's ironic normally the only version of the first movie that I can find online is the one that's not American

Thanks for that Alison. I've never seen "sorcerer's stone' here, it's always been Philospher's Stone.

i love that Ron and Harry both admit they wouldn't last five minutes without Hermione, in the field outside the Burrow, in DH1.
