My friend and I are going to attend Salt Lake Comic Con in September dressed as Dom (him) and Brian (me), so I bought the 6 films on DVD yesterday so that I could do some research for outfit ideas for the both of us, and, after having had a chance to rewatch the first two films (and get started on watching the fourth for the very first time), I have to say that this series really deserves to be better-appreciated - critically, anyway - than it is. It reminds me of a cross between the James Bond, Danny Ocean, Mission Impossible, and Bourne movies, and has a clearer narrative direction from its very inception than I think many people realize.

I believe there's this perception out there that the series 'morphed' from one thing into something else with the fifth installment, but, when you listen to Rob Cohen, who kickstarted the series, talk about the first film, it becomes clear that, even with his original inspiration for the film being an article about illegal street racing, the true 'heart' of the movie is the 'heist' story, which is a theme that is very much present in 2 Fast 2 Furious (which I think is a better film than it gets credit for being) and, by all accounts, in Fast 5 and Fast 6 as well (I haven't seen those films yet myself).

I agree that the movies didn't really change. The 'story' developed nicely by taking on the heist theme from movie to movie.

I've seen the first six movies and I'll probably see the next and the mini movie as well.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to continue the franchise to 10. But that's what they are planning to do...Without Paul, it isn't the same.
