"Eejit" is ethnocentric? It sounds like something a banjo-playing hillbilly from the Appalachians would say.

No, sneering at "eejit" is ethnocentric. As in smug Americans not appreciating Irish culture. And stuff your hillbillies. It's Irish, not hillbilly. If you know nothing of a foreign culture then the loss is yours. I'm quite serious about this. If you go around sneering at Irish dialect and insist on interpreting it in narrowly American terms then you'll get me very angry.
