Thanks, dragonfire!
Doesn't surprise me either. I despise Kevin Feige. __________________

OMG, really? Since when? And if she is, she shouldn't have the name "Marvel." __________________

Again, because that name originally belonged to Carol Danvers, who was named after Mar-Vell. And Jean Grey was already a mutant who had the name Marvel Girl.

Sorry. But if people want representation, they can't getting by piggybacking on the legacies of established characters and stories, whether it's Kamala Khan, or Miles Morales, or whomever. __________________

Where did I say that? There's nothing wrong with representation, as long as it's earned. It's like what Debbie Allen always said at the beginning of the 80s TV show, Fame. "You got big dreams? You want fame? Well fame costs, and right here is where you start paying... in sweat." The problem with today's idea of representation is that it's not really representative. People love to complain about cultural appropriation, but then are hypocrites by thinking that they can be transplanted into anyone else's culture or stories. It's not only hypocritical, it's also practically an implication of mediocrity. It's like they're saying that underrepresented and marginalized groups have no stories of their own to tell; no characters of their own to represent them, be they fictional or historical; no histories or mythologies of their own that they think anyone would be the least bit interested in. So the only way to get representation is to be transplanted into someone else's culture. Non-white actors playing white characters created by white writers, in stories written by white writers, or even playing real life white historical characters. Or creating characters that piggyback on top of legacy characters, like Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Green Lantern, Captain America, etc. That's not representation, that's just tracing over someone else's work. There's nothing wrong with representation, but you also have to be willing to do the work. Denzel Washington was once asked this question about diversity in film, and if diversity begins with casting. Denzel replied, "It begins with writing. People write what they know. We have to write our own stories, create our own characters, and make our own movies." __________________

Thanks for the info, dragonfire!

1. Small, intimate groups of friends numbering four to six will most often be homogenous groups, not diverse, mixed ones, because people look for familiarity, compatibility, and similarity. 2. Friends did have diversity in the form of supporting characters and guest characters. Who cares if the six main cast members were white? 3. Friends is set in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, which is 80% white, and in the 1990s when Friends was on the air, it was closer to 90%. 4. Friends is created by Marta Kaufmann, David Crane, and Kevin S. Bright, so it is their intellectual property and they can write it and cast it any way they want. It's a story based on their own experiences, imagination, and creative vision, and people always write what they know and shouldn't apologize for it. 5. Friends was hardly the only show on the air that featured an all-white main cast. Cheers, Mad About You, Seinfeld, Frasier, Wings, Will & Grace, Just Shoot Me!, 3rd Rock From The Son, Full House, The Drew Carey Show, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Two and a Half Men, and How I Met Your Mother all featured white main casts. Likewise, there were shows like Living Single, Martin, The Fresh Prince of Bel Ari, Family Matters, Moesha, Sister Sister, The Wayans Bros., The Jamie Foxx Show, A Different World, and The Cosby Show that features all black casts as well. __________________
