Found out today that one of my close friends brother committed suicide. Her and her family are beyond devastated. It hurts so bad that I can't be there for them.

Right now I think I'm waiting to wake up and realized that this isn't real. I'm alternating between being depressed, uncontrollable crying and anger.
I'm actually going to work in a bit today. Even though I don't want to I know I need to. I've missed so much work these last 2 weeks. I originally wanted the whole week off. My gm said that if that's what I really wanted he would but he doesn't think it would be healthy for me mentally. That I need to try to return to day to day activities. We aren't having the service until Saturday so I originally told me today Wed and Thur I could work. Then I went back and texted him that I could work tomorrow.

April, I'm so sorry You know that we are always here for you.

Do you feel like your boss is pressuring you to go back before you're ready? if you do go in, take it minute by minute.

No. He told me if I really wanted the whole week off he would give it to me. He just recently lost his father a few months ago. But it would be more mentally damaging if I don't try to get back to my day to day activites. Which I know that. It's so hard.

Okay just wanted to make sure because it sucks when someone pressures someone eles because they think someone is/should be ready.

But I get it, it's really easy to get sucked in a emotional dark hole and distractions like work can be helpful to counter that. Like I said you take each minute as it comes and remember you have a support system.

Because no two people mourn or go through loss the same way. What works for one person won't necessarily work for the next. And what works for you for a time can stop working at some point, too.

So just... listen to yourself first and foremost. Other people will have lost people they loved, too, but it doesn't make them experts on your grief process.

Has anyone read any books about dealing with grief?

I read this one recently, about the wife whose husband died suddenly. Her husband was the author of the "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" book series. She talks about her grief process.
