Ya know I never heard the Pet Shop Boys. Tell me my David has good taste.

I bet that if you'd listen to one of their more well known songs, you'd go "Ooohhhh, them!"

I've heard of them, but I don't know any of their songs. From the sound of it, though, that shows my wonderful music tastes.

I think Go West probably was the most famous, don't you think?
YouTube - PET SHOP BOYS - GO WEST - ORIGINAL

I loved that song when it came out

Yes... I can imagine.

Val, can I ask you a question? Is your first language English? Because I was reading your profile at LiveJournal, and you say you're half-Dutch and half-German, yet your English is flawless...

Aww thanks! no, English isn't my first language, but I started learning it at a very young age because my parents have some friends from England and they came over a lot when I was little and since I was raised bilingually (Dutch and German), I guess it was a little easier for me to quickly pick up another language on top of that. But trust me, my English really isn't flawless, I do make mistakes. And let's not even start on my accent

Honestly, I didn't realize! I was like... how come she's from the Netherlands, but she speaks English? I just assumed you'd moved to the Netherlands from England, because your English is just so good. I can't imagine having to post on here in another language. Because unless you need the directions to a market in French, I'm pretty useless.

You must be super S-M-R-T

Wow! Seriously, your english is impressive! I'm always impressed how many people there are in fandoms I'm in, how many that don't have english as a first language.

I'm very bad at languages, I've been doing french since I was 10, I know very little, and German I'm slightly better at, not by much though.

I'm glad to hear that, I do my best though really, it's a lot easier to learn English than any other language, because English is literally everywhere, you're bound to pick at least some of it up. I mean, music, movies, tv, ads, the internet... All mainly in English. I did have English class at school of course, but I learned most of it just from watching tv/movies, listening to music, reading and other fun stuff

I'm the opposite with Al Gore, but each to their own.

True, very true, that's why English people are so lazy, in that respect, because we speak such a global language, so we don't take it seriously, not saying that's not true for everyone but near me it is.

Me, I'm just bad at it, It's not that I'm uninterested.

Your best is awesome! English is everywhere- aren't I blessed ? All the awesome programs are English. I definitely take being able to speak English for granted, but I think everyone takes what they can do without thinking for granted.

I think the best way to learn another language is to do it outside of school- in an environment you enjoy, definitely

I live in a very French place, actually just over 10% of the population is neither English nor French and just under 8% speaks English... First language-wise. However my French sucks.
