Hi guys!
How's everyone? I had my first day at my new job today. Or internship. It was fun! I got to do all kinds of simple HRM stuff. I will be working a lot at the company the coming weeks which will be fun! There's also lots of English people working there so I had to get used to talking English. It's so easy to do with you guys but a bit harder when all of the sudden you have an English talking guy on the phone whose asking you all kinds of questions and you have to answer him professionally and appropriately. __________________

Denise - Im glad the first day went well and I know what you mean by talking english at work. This morning I got a call from Austrian embassy and they talked english. It was hard to suddenly jump into talking proper english at 9am.lol

Yeah, plus I got my very first sneak peek of what real life after college is going to look like for me. And it looked good. So much better than when I was majoring in teaching. I hated that and I really like this. So I think I really got the confirmation that I made the right decision now!
Lol that was the same for me this morning. I answered my phone in Dutch of course and the guy replied to me in Dutch as well. And then he started a whole story in English so I was a bit confused and had to switch my brains to English lol. It's probably going to happen a lot since lots of employers only speak English. __________________

Katka - I was at a camp, cooking for 140 people with a team of 8 to 10. I'm glad to be back and can be online again *hugs internet*
Oh, I know what it is like to suddenly HAVING to talk English on the phone. Because, I always use slang-ish words, and it might not be appropriate to some customers Is Val already in NYC? __________________

Denise and Katka, you write English so well, that I never even gave it a thought that it would be hard for you to speak it like that. Boy am I dumb. I am sure that you did great.
Denise, I am glad that your first day was fun. Thank you for the funny vid. I felt so bad for the little boy, but I have to admit that after I got over that, I laughed so hard. My kids loved it, too. |

Lol, I'm not a cook. But I am when a lot of people work towards getting the meal ready and stuff and you can split tasks. So yeah, it was fun especially, or also because of the people I worked with.
And there was also free time The problem with writing and talking English... here you can actually think what something means, when you talk it should go fluently. Sometimes it so doesn't, though __________________

Writing and speaking english is such a difference lol. But I think I lost my fear to speak to people in english about two years ago and today I don't care anymore. Except for when I wanna talk to Rob Bowman course lol. I am still embarrased about that lol.

Hi everyone
Glad your first day went well Denise, it's always a relief when the first day of something is over with isn't it? I did an internship last year and it was such a good experience, I learnt so much, more even than I had at university in some areas. How long will it be for? Sarah is right, your English looks wonderful written Denise and Katka I'm so impressed with anyone who makes an attempt to speak another language that isn't their own especially for their work or something. I work with a lady who's German and her English is brilliant, better than mine most of the time It's embarrassing that we don't manage to learn another language fluently here (well some people do, but most people don't). I really want to learn German, for some reason I really prefer it to French or something. I missed out on it at school so it's something I might do though I know I'd be a nervous wreck if I had to actually speak it to someone! I guess with anything the more you do it the easier it becomes. I went to London today to borrow a video camera off someone and it weighs an absolute ton! Then a really rude self important lady pushed in front of me at the coffee place at Kings Cross, just because her train was waiting. She just completely ignored the queue and went ahead of me. I didn't feel brave enough to confront her but now I wish I had. Oh well. Then I got all hot and bothered on the way home because the sun suddenly decided to appear after a cold start and I had dressed almost for winter! Now I'm just being lazy lol and putting off doing important things like sending emails and waiting for something good to come on t.v (pretty please British television, please buy Parenthood!). I hope everyone has a nice rest of their day __________________

What did you do in your free time Kathrin? Why was there a wink?!
And yeah, you guys are so good at English that I forget at times that it's not your first language I'm hopeless with other languages now I can understand the BASIC basics of French & Italian if it's written or spoken slowly but I can't speak or write it anymore, my grammar would be TERRIBLE! It's 2pm and I'm still in my PJs, I swear I don't get dressed unless I have to leave the house! I just had pantsless snacks with my aunt and uncle ETA - Caitlin, I forgot to say. I had tweeted something to Erika a couple days ago when she'd said something about Parenthood airing in different countries or something (I can't remember the context) but I said I was bummed that it wasn't showing in the UK and she tweeted back saying that it would be!!!! I don't know when and digital spy still knows nothing but I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Can't wait! __________________

Caitlin, German is so hard to learn, imo. But French, too, lol. But you can try though? You can do it Music and Lyrics is on here on TV tonight. ETA: Cee, I was very well-behaved in that free time, mind you I just winked to say I didn't work all the time. __________________
