WooHoo. I just got an email back from Rox. She's okay. Here's the message.

Hey, this is the first day we've had e-mail... actually my office just got electricity today, and I was trying to get to the boards but our internet was still down, I just got back from the hospital and found out the e-mail had come up... I'm crazy worried about Behrfanny!!! has anyone heard from her? we have not even been able to pick up a radio station till about 2 hrs ago and it sounds horrible... some people are getting cell service back and unless you have a generator you have no electricity... bad thing is all our gas stations are running out of gas so no one can run the generators for long. They are saying once the gas is gone it could be 2 weeks before they can get a trucks back in to us. I'm about 2 and-a-half hours away from the Coast so I really thought we would not get allot, but we did. I live in a trailer, and although no trees hit us, it did push it off the foundation, BUT I didn't lose anything... My parents house (where me and Brandon road out the storm) had a tree fall on my dads tractor, 2 small trees fell on one end of his shop, but all damage we could live with. I almost did not make it home on Monday before it hit. When I finally left the office I had to drive about 40mph all the way home because of the rain and wind... about 10 miles before I got to my turn-off a tree fell across the road, and I mean a big tree.. I was scared and it was raining and I was on the phone with my mom and I told her to send daddy to help me get home... and then this guy pulls up behind me and I see a guy on the other side of the tree (facing my lane) and he gets out of his truck and drags a power saw out of the bed of his truck and he and the other guy begin trying to cut up the tree to get me through... and I was crying because I was scared but also because they were trying to help me and they didn't even know me... the power saw kept going dead in the rain and the tree was so big and finally one of the guys just crawled in on my side of the car and pushed me over, and drove my car around through a gully which was scary to because the car was almost on it's side... but he got me around and I made it home... by the time I got there trees were falling everywhere... I live in the "country" and we are surrounded by woods... I actually live on a dirt road... so we just sat in the dark and watched out the window as things just went crazy... around 10:00p.m. it died down and we drove over to my trailer to see if it was still there... we tried to make it to my aunt's house about 1 mile up the road (towards the highway I had come home on) and there were so many trees across the road we could not make it.

Tuesday was spent just trying to get trees out of our way. Men in our community just all got up and started at one end of the road and they would cut them away, pitch the wood and limbs into the ditches and move on to the next one... It was like my dad and 3 other guys.... I finally made it into town but there was no lights, or phones or water... and we just got our cell phones back late last night and only for limited areas/times. Since everything was down at my office I went to the restaurant I manage to survey the damage. We were called by red cross and local radio stations asking us to open if there was anyway because the fast food places, the ones that weren't damaged, were running out of food... So we stayed open till about 10:00 last night (our restaurant did have power and water thank goodness). I got home about 11:30 last night still no power or water... I stopped at a friends house this morning and took a shower, she has no power, but she does have water...a very cold shower...

Today has been crazy what little gas was left in the town people started acting crazy over... they had to send police and national guard out to handle the stations that were able to pump today. I sat in a line for 2 hours to get our company van filled up with gas and only two people behind me got gas before the pumps went dry. Power is being restored slowly but surely. The water company told me it will be about one more week before I get water, BUT the electric company says 2 to 3 weeks before we get electricity. All of my friends live in the "country" so we're all in the same boat.... My boss has told me that Brandon and I are welcome to bring sleeping bags and stay in the office there is a shower in the executive bathroom, but I can't leave my mom and dad alone... I mean they are both disabled, my dad is a very bad diabetic and my mom doesn't get around well. If I'm not going home and taking them ice and making sure they have water, I'm afraid what would happen. And they would never even consider moving to town with me, so I'm pretty much stuck where we are. School is out right now because of damage to the buildings plus no water or electricity. The city school is going to be up and running tomorrow I think.

They did have a curfew that no one could be out but emergency personnel from dusk till dawn, but I think they will lift that tonight.

My friends on the coast lost everything. The Grand Casino came out of the water, barge and all and acted like a level and just came across and took their house, their car and truck and all the houses around it for about 3 blocks... but they are alive and that's what counts. They are headed to family in Florida.

My friends in Hattiesburg said they had 2 trees in their house and in both of their son's bedrooms the roofs were now in their floor, but they also made it through (they were able to leave Hattiesburg around 3:00am this morning) and went to family in Alabama.

I keep hearing awful things about New Orleans and Slidell... I have been so worried about Behrfanny and could not find out anything... Please let me know if any of the OTO's hear anything... I just want to know she's safe.

Thanks for e-mailing... sorry it was so long... but it seems like ages since I heard from the outside world.. Although this all happened Monday it feels like weeks....

keep us in your prayers...

your friendly OTO
rox_mc

I'm sure BehrFanny probably doesn't have power and therefore no internet. Hopefully someone will hear from her soon.

On the phone with Lisa/Behrfanny - she's fine - her family is fine too! I'll report back with you soon!

Can I say I HATE power outages? This last one has FRIED my HD....the one in my very first computer.... My baby.....I'm quite attatched to that thing.....maybe my dad can get it to boot. If it is dead.....I lost ALL my roswell music....fanfic....and e-mail......and tons of other stuff.

I mean I've had the computer since 1999 and it is outdated but it is MINE.....the HD is only 19 GB but it is mine....

I hope my dad can fix it......

I'm glad to hear that behrfanny and rox are ok. PHEW!!

I see that the prediction of rising gas prices is true....I just drove past the gas station....Gas is up to $3.09!!! When I got gas this morning it was $2.74 up from $2.49 2 days ago!

Sheesh......

UGH!!

I really hope my HD can be saved.....

to all....

I've been watching the news non-stop hoping for good information, but not so. THe National news can only touch a little bit of each region effected by the storm. The local news tells a much sadder picture.

Some of my family members are staying at my uncles truck stop near Lafayette, louisiana. It's quite crowded. About 12 people & 3 dogs. We were all crowded around the TV watching helecopter fly over New Orleans. There were tears shed and prayers said.

We could only see the roofs of houses in my grandmothers neighborhood....all those family pictures are now gone
Southern Yacht club where we have Christmas Dinner went up in flames.

Then the worse news came that the Levee holding in the 17th street canal broke....about 2 hundred feet. This is what flooded my house. My cousin lives 1 mile away from me....she stayed in New Orleans. We haven't heard from her since early yesterday morning. She had 2 feet of water in her raised home then. Keep her in your prayers that she was able to be rescued.

The storm has devestated the city. We just don't know when we will be able to go back. .....or what we will find.

The people who made it out of New Orleans and MS are more fortunate than the poor souls who stayed. Now we are all struggling to come to terms with our changed lives. Even finding a place to stay is hard. All hotels in Louisiana are filled and even places as far as Houston & little Rock are booked. And if you have pets.....your places to stay are even more limited.

I wish I could tell you guys better news....but right now my spirits are pretty low and all I want to do is

Thanks for all the prayers. THey do help.

I just thought I'd bring this post over from SBT. Some of you met her at the BAT

My prayers go out to all those who have been devastated by Katrina and I'm glad to hear behrfanny is doing okay without severe damage. I hope the rest will report in and are doing well.

So I reached Lisa/behrfanny. She has caller ID so when she answered, she already knew it was me. It was so wonderful to hear her voice. She said her mom's place really didn't sustain much damage compared to their neighbors, besides a few lost shingles and pieces of vinyl siding. Their neighbors had trees fall on their homes and more damage but her home isn't too bad. They don't have electricity but they do have a generator so they're able to keep their food safe and a fan on her mom. I worry about her mom, though. Her health isn't good and this is a lot of stress for her. She said the heat is horrible.

And they do have hot water, too, because they have gas. They have plenty of safe drinking water too. They're doing ok, considering. After reading Rox's email, I don't know how long her generator will hold out - she said she only has a half a tank of gasoline in her car right now. I didn't think of the generator needing gas.

She said they've had no communications to speak of. Only a couple phone calls. She said she's been trying to call me but she can't call out, she can only receive calls and that's even been sporadic. They have no news, no internet, no radio or TV so she was really surprised to hear just how horrible Katrina is further away from her. She's about 115 miles due north of New Orleans so she said they were on the "good" side of the hurricane, if there is such a thing. The west side of it since it actually hit a little east of New Orleans. She said they thought the wind would never stop.

The rest of her family is safe too. She doesn't know about her rental properties - they're pretty stuck where they are for the time being. Her Ex is going to check on her house in Covington. I hope it's ok. Her mom also owns 7 rental properties. They don't know anything about them, either.

All in all, though, she sounded good. Her spirits were pretty good too. She wanted me to thank you all for thinking of her. She figured the OTOs had forgotten about her by now. She's doing ok. She had to get off the phone because her mom had dinner ready so I told her I'd call her again soon. I'll let you all know how she's doing, when I do.

Thanks Richard and Belle for reporting in on other friends. It's good to know they're ok.

Hello OTO's

I right now am very sad. As I read about reports about this terrible tragedy makes me even more sad. I have to say that is very hard. I am going to try to give as much as I can.

Belle, Longtimefan, and groundhog thank you for the updates. It is greatly appreciated.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

OTOs

OOTW, great BAT photos! …. Was your cat trying to type a post when she knocked over your drink? Lori’s pup has been known to type a post or two.

Cherie, thanks for sharing your pix. I hope Photobucket cooperates so you can post more of them.

Jen, congrats on winning another award.

For all of us ing because we have to wait for new eps of The 4400 – we can cheer up because the season 2 premier of Lost is just a few weeks away.

WB, how terrific that you finally got to meet Elijah. I enjoyed looking at your pix. Isn't the zoom feature the best?

GH, if you missed the later showing of the season finale of The 4400, try watching it with close caption on. It’s not the same as hearing the actors speak the dialog, but at least you will know all of the plot developments. I use CC when I can’t understand a line of a show I’ve taped. And it comes in really handy with South Park because there is so much mumbling going on in that show.

love Oth love, welcome to the OTO thread.

teetee, I hope you and Pucknut come to LA soon. My sweet tooth is running in overdrive.

jero, thanks for the new thread.

Like everyone else, I have been glued to the Weather Channel, CNN and other news venus. The post-Karina pictures are so awful. Such complete devastation. My heart goes out to everyone affected by it.

More after I play catch up.

Thanks for the updates on SBT, Rox, and Behrfanny. It is wonderful to know that they are safe. It is hard to believe what Mother nature can do.

Thank you so much for that good news, Groundhog, Liz and Belle. What a relief -- they've been on my mind since Katrina hit.

Thanks for the notes on Rox and Behrfanny! Good to hear that SBT is also OK

My son's friends at school have so far fear they've lost at least two relatives on the coast of Mississippi and one in LA.
